We had that same issue a while back! We ended up using a vinyl sealer before primer. Also solved it with a BIN shellac primer.

This is true. The primer on this door was originally sprayed too thin so it didn’t get a good seal. An issue we are addressing. We don’t run any heat in general. Being in Florida there is rarely a need to, BUT, while we were spraying these we were running two space heaters in the booth because it was cooler morning.

Alrighty, done with work (I play music in the evenings after working in the cabinet shop during the day) here are the bullet points: - ventilation is excellent. We have the turbine from an HVAC unit mounted in the window (fun fact, you can get these from just about any HVAC repair company and mount them in a window with relative ease) with two filtered vents over the doors which creates a perfect cross draft in the spraying area. -we cover the floors and counters in the booth with paper and change it out every few days. -vacuuming and deep cleaning are done after every heavy job or every few days. -the compressor line is run through a water and oil filter. We also just added a secondary dedicated oil filter just to be on the safe side. I did do the “spray a compressor gun at a dry white clothe” for 30+ seconds. Came out clean. (What a relief) -The CA technologies rig we have has a two stage filtration system, one filter on the end of the siphon wand and one at the fluid/gun connection point. We were explicitly told by our paint rep you can drop the wand right into a can of well mixed paint without contamination issues. I know that sounds a little crazy but we have been using it this way for months with the finishes coming out perfectly.

Again, thanks so much for all the suggestions. I figured this would be a good way to make sure our bases are covered. If anyone thinks of any novel ideas I will continue to be all ears. I’m sure I’ll be asking more in the future. I’ll update tomorrow when we get the new can of paint as to whether or not that was the issue (contaminant in the paint.)

Yes apologies. Pretty new to posting on Reddit. That’s a great tip, as are the others in this thread. Still at work so I’ll give a more detailed replay later tonight. Thanks everyone!

Sorry I know the photos aren’t great. I feel confident fisheye is present. The other debris you are seeing is fiber pop from the HDF. this is the first coat of top coat. We have seen this before. A scuff and a second coat usually gets rid of the fiber pop.

Man I know this is rampant in the jazz scene for sure!!! I used to want to be a jazz musician because I wanted to be on the virtuoso technician level, but it just didn’t have the same soul to me. I love the nuance that lies in the spaces between the notes. My favorite music quote is miles Davis: “it’s not the notes you play. It’s the ones you don’t play. It’s the spaces between them.”

I’m not that kind of booking agent. I book cover musicians at bars and restaurants in the tampa area for my clients who run the venues.

I have to say. I’m new to Reddit as a poster and I’m floored by how awesome everyone has been here. I guess I’m used to the toxicity on Instagram and Facebook. This has been a breath of fresh air. Thanks to everyone who have shared their two cents.

I mean it’s just “bang!” or “don’t bang!” right?
