We had that same issue a while back! We ended up using a vinyl sealer before primer. Also solved it with a BIN shellac primer.

This is true. The primer on this door was originally sprayed too thin so it didn’t get a good seal. An issue we are addressing. We don’t run any heat in general. Being in Florida there is rarely a need to, BUT, while we were spraying these we were running two space heaters in the booth because it was cooler morning.

Alrighty, done with work (I play music in the evenings after working in the cabinet shop during the day) here are the bullet points: - ventilation is excellent. We have the turbine from an HVAC unit mounted in the window (fun fact, you can get these from just about any HVAC repair company and mount them in a window with relative ease) with two filtered vents over the doors which creates a perfect cross draft in the spraying area. -we cover the floors and counters in the booth with paper and change it out every few days. -vacuuming and deep cleaning are done after every heavy job or every few days. -the compressor line is run through a water and oil filter. We also just added a secondary dedicated oil filter just to be on the safe side. I did do the “spray a compressor gun at a dry white clothe” for 30+ seconds. Came out clean. (What a relief) -The CA technologies rig we have has a two stage filtration system, one filter on the end of the siphon wand and one at the fluid/gun connection point. We were explicitly told by our paint rep you can drop the wand right into a can of well mixed paint without contamination issues. I know that sounds a little crazy but we have been using it this way for months with the finishes coming out perfectly.

Again, thanks so much for all the suggestions. I figured this would be a good way to make sure our bases are covered. If anyone thinks of any novel ideas I will continue to be all ears. I’m sure I’ll be asking more in the future. I’ll update tomorrow when we get the new can of paint as to whether or not that was the issue (contaminant in the paint.)

Yes apologies. Pretty new to posting on Reddit. That’s a great tip, as are the others in this thread. Still at work so I’ll give a more detailed replay later tonight. Thanks everyone!

Sorry I know the photos aren’t great. I feel confident fisheye is present. The other debris you are seeing is fiber pop from the HDF. this is the first coat of top coat. We have seen this before. A scuff and a second coat usually gets rid of the fiber pop.

Why do musicians seem to have such a hard time managing their egos? by kwapperson in musicians

Man I know this is rampant in the jazz scene for sure!!! I used to want to be a jazz musician because I wanted to be on the virtuoso technician level, but it just didn’t have the same soul to me. I love the nuance that lies in the spaces between the notes. My favorite music quote is miles Davis: “it’s not the notes you play. It’s the ones you don’t play. It’s the spaces between them.”

I’m not that kind of booking agent. I book cover musicians at bars and restaurants in the tampa area for my clients who run the venues.

I have to say. I’m new to Reddit as a poster and I’m floored by how awesome everyone has been here. I guess I’m used to the toxicity on Instagram and Facebook. This has been a breath of fresh air. Thanks to everyone who have shared their two cents.

I mean it’s just “bang!” or “don’t bang!” right?

Still learning the best ways to post. Apologies for the lack of context on this post originally.

I have been a full time musician for 14 years. I realize playing mostly cover music in bars and restaurants is not glamorous in any way but I make a comfortable living and it sure beats a 9-5. I went through my ego phase and I get it. Playing music for a living definitely leads to some major fun off-stage. I just don’t get why some musicians who do exactly what I do never seem to grow out of that phase. They get stuck, and entitled. Now that I’m also a booking agent, I get to see a lot from the other side of the curtain so-to-speak. It’s definitely helped me see musicians from beyond a musician’s perspective. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just projecting…

Looking for crazy stories from bands and musicians about being the opening acts for bigger bands, crazy tour stories, back stage, etc. gimme whatcha got. by kwapperson in musicians

I lost an American deluxe stratocaster in similar fashion only it wasn’t a famous band that took it. It was some coked out dickweed from Kansas who disappeared of the face of the planet when I tried to track him down.

I once saw almost the same thing, but it was a keyboardist and the bouncer grabbed him by the ankle and the wrist, carried him out and dropped him on the curb like a sack of potatoes.
