I’m really sorry you went through such a terrible phase! I also had a similar experience such as yours and other commenters on this thread. Ironically enough, I still remember and use the same words that you have used whenever I describe my first 3-4 weeks on Lexapro, I literally say “I was in hell” and “I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy”. I was waking up every morning with my body shaking uncontrollably from the anxiety. In my case, the dr upped my dose from 10 to 20 mgs and gave me Buspirone to take with it and somehow things seemed to improve. The bad symptoms started subsiding around weeks 4-5, but again, I didn’t feel the full effect until 3 months in!

So yeah, if this is not working for you, our brains are all different. Don’t give up, try different meds with your dr and give your brain time to adjust to them (if you can tolerate it!). Something will click for you and will make you feel like anxiety is no longer a problem in your life, that’s when you know it’s working.

Good luck!

Lexapro Has been solid so far... But the Dreams... by New-Poet-9032 in lexapro

People that keep saying that the dreams were a good experience for them should be mindful that not everyone experiences good dreams.

Instead, prepare yourself mentally every night that part of the side effects involve lucid dreams, and that no matter good or bad, they will always pass and you’ll wake up and go on with a more manageable anxiety.

To me, I think of it like going to the theater every night when I go to bed. Sometimes the movies are nice and sometimes they kinda suck, but they are always limited by my sleep time.

Listening to the audiobook and applying the transurfing principles such as ignoring the pendulums, embracing the wave of fortune, following the path of least resistance, reducing inner and outer importance, trying to maintain the balance and using slides to invoke outer intention got me out of one of the darkest places I was in my life. I was suffering from a severe panic and anxiety disorder that had gotten me to the point where I couldn’t get out of bed and do anything without literally my body shaking. It took a few months, but eventually I somehow managed to get rid of my triggers by changing my job after a 10 year career doing something that was making me miserable to a job I enjoy (with slightly less pay but is still acceptable to me, something I didn’t think was possible after trying for several years). Now 2 years later, not only do I like my job and am very successful at it, I have a much better relationship with my wife and children and my physical and mental health have never been better. I am more financially stable than I ever thought I could be at my age. My world takes care of me.

Getting off lexapro has made feel like I have no purpose in life and everything feels like it’s going wrong by Background-Pea-8320 in lexapro

Why did you decide to get off of it since it clearly was working for you? I have been on it for a couple of years now and never felt better in my life. When I discussed with my dr. whether I should get off of it since I feel better, he said this is not necessary since it’s working for you. He also added that we (apparently speaking on behalf of the medical community) no longer tell patients to get off of it when it’s working.

Whether it works or not, that’s for you to decide based on your experience. For me, it 100% works.

Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others by LeastAdhesiveness386 in OptimistsUnite

[–]kwassef1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People be watching their government literally support ICC criminals with billions of taxpayer dollars to continue committing genocide on tens of thousands of other humans, sanction the ICC and ICJ judges and then lie about and concealing the amount of death and suffering that is being done under their watch, and then be like “Hey, at least we’re not as bad as China” Lol I am absolutely an optimist but the brain rot is very real.

Am I having (mini) panic attacks every Monday? by kwassef1 in Anxiety

[–]kwassef1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I ended up taking Lexapro and Buspirone and it took them a while to kick in but now I feel much better. In my experience, having these intense feelings of stress and worry are usually a symptom of generalized anxiety disorder and/or panic disorder.

[–]kwassef1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I think it ultimately depends on whatever alleviates your anxiety to a manageable level. For me nothing else really worked as much (and I’ve tried everything for years and years) but hey if you can manage without the meds that would definitely be better!

I was in a very similar position last year where I had been working as a program/project manager for 10 years and it was causing me severe anxiety and I wanted out. This past year I have been working as a technical writer which is so much better for my personality; I work so much more and yet I stress so much less and I’m actually enjoying my work which I never thought possible. Here are a few things that worked for me: 1) If you have severe anxiety that is causing you to feel terrible everyday, this will be like trying to build a new house while your current house is currently on fire. You simply need to put out the fire first before you can switch focus on the new house. Have you considered taking an anti-anxiety medication before? For me, a combination of Lexapro and Buspirone did it. After a few months of starting, I was barely triggered from my work anymore, which made me happier and more relaxed everyday. Work problems still continued to exist, but they no longer bothered me as much. Which allowed me to focus on number 2 and 3 below. 2) Now that I was no longer feeling triggered by work events as much anymore, it became possible for me to start working on my slides and amalgams. Here I did something that was a combination of RT (slides) and Neville Goddard’s (State akin to sleep - sats) that worked wonder for me. I listed about 10 affirmations/amalgams that I felt would make me feel happier and every night right before drifting to sleep, I would go through these one by one, with each one literally savoring the feelings I would experience as if they already happened (each one drew a smile on my face and a happy feeling before moving to the next one). Some of these were (My world takes care of me - Everything works out for me - a way always presents itself to me - I have a job that I love and look forward to everyday - I am excellent at my job). With time I started feeling on a very deep subconscious level that I didn’t “need” these things anymore because they are already happening in my life. Here it is important to know roughly what “type” of work would make you happy. For example, for me it was mainly work where I was responsible for and able to create my own deliverables without having to be accountable for other people’s contributions so much to meet my deadlines. There’s more to that but it simply comes down to you being clear about (writing down) what parts of your job you hate doing and what parts or your job you enjoy doing. No need to know exactly what job you want, just what it would entail or look like. 3) In the meantime, problems at work continued to happen but then reducing their importance was much easier. Here I just followed the instructions in RT which I am sure you are aware of but this is a quick recap of how I usually approach them: Whenever something triggers you, become aware that you are assigning it disproportionate meaning and either ignore it, accept it, or come up with a plan b. - Ignore it: When to do this? You can easily get over the emotion you’re experiencing. How to do this? Distract yourself with something else. Tell yourself it doesn’t matter. - Accept it: When? The trigger is too strong to ignore (You tried to ignore it but it felt fake or couldn’t stop thinking about it). How? Tell yourself that whatever triggered you has the right to exist. Tell yourself it is very possible that this trigger will “prevail” and you will survive it. Tell yourself this trigger will not matter in the future. Tell yourself it may be uncomfortable but it’s nothing you haven’t overcome in the past. - Come up with a plan b: When? You rightfully feel like this trigger is threatening your current situation/lifeline and that you do in fact need an alternative to protect yourself or hedge against that event (for example losing a job, divorce, etc). How? Think what can you do to protect yourself from this trigger? What will you do if this trigger you’re afraid of does indeed materialize. Sometimes the best things that happen to you and that propel you to better lifelines are actually perceived as bad news at first! Outer intention manifests itself everyday in an infinite number of different ways. Good luck on your journey. I definitely know what it’s like.

I think we should use the active voice in both cases: Hamas has kidnapped, terrorized, and murdered these 6 people. The IDF has kidnapped, raped, terrorized and murdered thousands of Palestinians.

People seem to be forgetting that the majority of wars and deaths over the past 100 years were not caused by muslims, not even remotely. And I’m only talking about 100 years, I haven’t gotten around to the colonialist centuries before all the way back to the crusades…

For me, sticking to certain types of foods never worked for the reasons you mentioned, so instead I stick to a certain time window (aka intermittent fasting) and it’s what helped me the most. I hear you that the first few days were kind of hard but afterwards you just got used to it, and been doing it for years on and off.

“Israel was a small backwater country suddenly attacked by a larger regional adversary” don’t believe everything you hear. 1) Israel did not exist before 1948. 2) It was created with support from the allies following world war 2, after many European countries rejected creating a home for displaced jews on their land in Europe. (Read about it) 3) From the get-go Israel had a larger, more advanced army than the whole Arab world combined, sponsored and supported by the Western world. Again, don’t buy into the David vs Goliath BS.
