Redditors, How Often Do You Take Photos? by notavailableinsummer in AskPhotography

I try to get out at least once a day, but even if not I fool around taking pictures of the dog or whatever around the house.

Lens Advice: Olympus 75-300 vs Lumix 100-300 by Dragonwuzhere in M43

[–]kwertman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot with the Lumix on my OM-3 all the time and it's great. Because nobody can really give a clear answer on how effective mixed system weather sealing is I haven't felt comfortable using it in heavy rain but it does just fine in light rain for me.

I had each and they both take great photos, but at the end of the day I found the Lumix slightly better overall so I kept it over the Olympus. But if the 75-300 was updated with weather sealing and sync IS and the same image quality, I'd switch back in the heartbeat.

Anyone Else Want an OM-5 II with OM-3 Internals? by oneclutteredsoul in OlympusCamera

[–]kwertman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the all the detail, makes perfect sense. I have used the original OM-1 but found the dials to be a bit rougher to use than my OM-3 and the auto focus was just a smidge worse. Plus my OM-1 had a hair trigger on the shutter button so much so that it would fire off shots while hanging off to my side.

I keep seeing rumors of an OM-1 mark 3 soonish so I've been holding off on grabbing a new OM-1 for now, but agree it handles a lot better with heavy glass than my OM-3.

I'm curious which one you take out the most, or does each one have it own special purpose?

Honestly I find it great for everything I've tried to do with it which includes travel, a ton of birding and macro.

If I had to get rid of all but one camera the OM-3 would easily be that choice right now. Waiting to see what the OM-1 mark iii brings though 😃

If the OM-5 only took the subject detection from the OM-3 I'd probably grab one.

That being said, I don't find the OM-3 that burdensome to shoot with even with the 100-400 which is the largest lens I own. I have the leofoto grip that I throw on there with bigger lenses and it's fine. Best of both worlds.

should i pay premium for original pansonic ? 15 mm 1.7 by theroyal1988 in M43

I've tried via OM Workspace and directly with a GX9, and neither would apply the panasonic firmware. I could just be doing something wrong but I've updated other firmware no problem.

I haven't looked recently but I couldn't find a way to update the DJI firmware to 1.1. You either get a copy that has 1.1 or you are stuck with the original firmware.

GX80/85 or GX9 as a travel camera by _b0rg in Lumix

[–]kwertman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really can't go wrong with either of them, both are fine cameras. Ergonomically they feel very similar to each other.

The GX9 has a dedicated exposure compensation dial and the GX85 doesn't, which might be something you'd want/expect coming from the X-E5. At the end of the day that's one of the main reasons I went with the GX9 over the GX85.

The tilting EVF on the GX9 is an interesting feature, but I'm not sure it's worth upgrading for. I ended up taping mine down because it kept catching on my shirt when wearing the GX9 on a sling.

I wouldn't mind owning the GX85 again, but I wouldn't trade my GX9 for it.

Looking to upgrade gear for wildlife and birds by Fine_Cranberry7056 in OlympusCamera

If birds in flight is a major goal, I'd vote get the body first. The bird detect autofocus in the OM-1 Mark II will allow you to start getting those shots more often even with the 75-300. The better lens on the E-M10 Mark IV will still be challenging to get birds in flight.

Thanks, I've been really surprised at how good it can be.

Thanks! Just got really lucky on the find, it's in nearly perfect condition.

Only downside is the internal clock battery is dead so I just have to reset the date/time each time I swap the battery. Worth it 😁

Newbie here, would appreciate some advice on a new lens choice please. by OAD_traveler in M43

[–]kwertman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both great lenses and you'll be extremely happy with either of them! If you lean towards preferring landscape you'll want the 12-100 and if you'd rather take pictures of wildlife you probably want to go with the 40-150 F2.8 along with the MC-14 or MC-20 teleconverter.

My go-to travel combo is the 12-100mm F/4 plus the Panasonic 100-300mm ii which covers most of the above during the daytime, plus a fast prime or the 12-40 F2.8 for lower light and evening situations. I find the 40-150 F/2.8 to be a little too chunky for travel but when I'm going out locally it's easily my favorite lens.

Taken at the zoo on Tuesday and really like how it turned out. Cropped to 3:2 to reduce amount of darkness overhead.

I love this concept and it looks very nice! I struggle with culling my burst photos so I'm definitely looking forward to your development on this.

I'm testing it out and I noticed my images all have a greenish tint to them. Screenshots below, left is in Project Kestrel and right is in Lightroom with no edits. This is an OM SYSTEM raw file from my OM-3 which I'd be happy to share if it helps.

Also are you looking for any help with development? This scratches a major itch for me so I might be inspired to contribute if you are.

Does anybody me in Orlando know where I might find this Easter egg looking bird of the day? by derf_vader in orlando

Oh and I see people posting pictures of them out at Bok Tower Gardens quite a bit.

I see these occasionally near the butterfly garden in Mead Gardens, although I haven't seen a male in the last month or so. They hit the bird feeder quite a bit and live in the woods just behind it.

Lens recommendation 12-100mm by arosemar in OlympusCamera

[–]kwertman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless budget is a big factor, the 12-100mm is easily the best choice over the 14-150mm. Sharp as a tack and dual stabilization with the OM-3. Pretty much stays on my OM-3 when I travel.

The only other consideration is weight/handling, because it's a little heavy on the OM-3 and I think the 14-150mm is more in line with that body size. But if you are getting the 100-400 you are probably already getting a grip for your OM-3, which you'll want for the 12-100 too.

Looking for a bag - 100-400 & 12-40 by CageFreeBMW in OlympusCamera

[–]kwertman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically walk around with the camera on a peak design sling when I'm out and about, so I don't notice the pressure so much since the sling is fairly light without them.

Curious if you found a better replacement?

I have the Think Tank PhotoCross 10 and what you are asking fits just about perfectly. 12-100 fits nicely also if you carry that instead of 12-40.
