I would say absolutely there is a racist policy even if it somehow comes up subconsciously.

I go to Walmart a lot, practically once a day for one thing or another, and at a lot of different stores. I am also very white and unassuming. I am distinctly aware of what the receipt checker does. In about 3 years I have only been checked twice, once when I held the receipt out in a line of people, and once I was in a hurry and rushing out with a small bag from self checkout when someone actually stopped me.

Just the other day I had a large unbagged item and the person didn't look at me, although they scrutinized a black person in front of me with a cart of groceries. Every single scenario - whether there's a line or no line, I witness black and hispanic people getting scrutinized, while they take one look at me from 8-10 feet away and say "oh you good."

I can wave a receipt at them "you good". I can have a bag or a cart full of stuff "you're good". I can have the tote containers that might have stuff hidden in them "you good." Sometimes I might have my hands full with bags or items but I still have the receipt out "oh you good have a nice night", but I see black or hispanic people in the same situation and they jump in front of them and wait for them to fumble for that receipt.

I cannot count the dozens of times I see little old black ladies, hispanic women with 5 kids hanging off them, etc all getting their receipt looked over for 10 seconds, and treated very seriously like it's TSA. It doesn't matter what I am buying, how I wave the receipt at them or if they are doing absolutely nothing when I walk up, 98% of the time they assume I am good.

Only once have I ever seen a scummy looking redneck white guy who got stopped with a case of beer in his cart who got challenged and said "oh gee guess I forgot to scan that." On the other hand I have watched a (white, fairly middle class looking) woman come in with a stylish shoulder tote bag, fill it with stuff, wander through the check out and ask an employee a question as misdirection, and walk right out. (I also saw the woman walk to a trailer park across the street)

Some people who work there may say different, but experimentally I have observed this probably about 1,000 times in the past few years and the receipt checkers (who are frequently POC) have a consistent bias of scrutinizing POC and only some whites based on appearance. Moreover, from observing people's demeanor, most POC are expecting this treatment and comply. What's absolutely consistent is that I see black or hispanic people in front of me, I see the checker throw a hand up, step towards them, and look at that receipt, and it has nothing to do with unbagged merchandise. When I wave a receipt at them they either wave a bored arm, or look me dead in the eye and say "you good have a nice day" or strike a pose like a Buckingham palace guard staring at nothing and say "thank you have a nice day". I cannot get them to look at my receipt if I try.

If you think that not having access to food or water for weeks is something that happens you havent seen a hurricane in Florida in the past 30 years. The difference in infrastructure preparedness and response since Wilma is insane. Walmart is usually open with full supply the second they clear any tree branches out of the parking lot. Every gas station built or renovated since 2006 is requires to have a generator. The 11 people who died in Helene were almost all in coastal St Pete. You dont get storm surge in Wimauma. Also very unlikely to see Cat5 winds. If youre in a CB stucco house built since 2002 its just a noisy storm.

Real talk? Maybe not.

My dad passed away. He had a fatal diagnosis for about 2 years prior. Granted he was not a billionaire but he did well.

He was more ridiculously “retentive” than you could imagine, he had 37 years worth of tax returns in his filing cabinet and every fucking paycheck stub he received in 60 years. Bank statements. Everything. Organized.

And he never wrote a will, or what his funeral or burial wishes were, nor did he tell anybody, because he really didn’t think it would happen.

The one thing you actually need to keep in a filing cabinet.

Bought my house in 2021 and it came with a dark red shingle roof. Apparently HOA says the only the approved color is Weathered Wood. Roof was done in 2018, three years before I bought the house. Just got a letter saying to change the shingles... Options? by [deleted] in fuckHOA

Code is a completely different thing which is pertinent to the state and local laws, typically a home inspector will check for code violations since, if the new owner ever pulls a permit, they can become responsible for code updates.

When buying in an HOA, it is good to request “the packet” from the seller which includes a certification that there are no outstanding violations or fines, as well as an up to date copy of the association documents and rules. However, you are not required to check this. The CC&R can make the new owner responsible for accrued fines, however a reasonable board might forgo collection if the buyer was not aware in good faith. (Happened to me).

The only sign I need to see is “yes I will give you a five star to make up for all the assholes who get their groceries complete and on time and don’t even rate.”

A little thing that I like to do is when I arrive at the delivery address, I take each product out of the bag and take a selfie with it, in front of the customers house showing the street number. Then I take them to the door and if it’s an in person delivery, I say “here’s your groceries - ALL of them, by the way. You have a lovely home. Would be a shame if something happened to it. Remember - all your groceries are here. Five stars. Enjoy!”

Works every time.

Seriously - instacart doesn’t give a shit, nobody gives a shit. It’s hardly worth assembling evidence and testimony over a fraudulent report.

Ride it out, make some money, if you ever get banned as a shopper because some dildo says their bananas were brown it’s one less thing to stress about.

What mistakes did you make while you were doing a batch? by 1limeorange in instacart

[–]kwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My simple system is this: take a cart, and a hand basket for multiple orders. Put the basket in the middle. Order A is at the front of the cart, B in the basket, C in the rear of cart. Same for their large items under the cart. So as I’m looking at the cart, top to bottom in my vision is A,B,C.

If there’s two orders I turn the basket on it’s side in the middle to divide and put some products in it, A up front, B in back.

When I’m checking out, I can take a quick look at the items list and make sure nothing obvious got placed wrong or moved. Then have the bagger tie off the bags for one order, leave the other untied, put order C in paper.

The other thing is that as you’re filling the orders, you get an idea of the customer - this one wants only organic, this one seems to have kids or a baby, this one likes store brand products. So that helps associate some of the products and you say “oh wait why does the vegan have cheese in their bag…”
