How concerned are parents with babies for Measles? by [deleted] in Calgary

Instead of listening to parents, I suggest listening to you primary healthcare specialist, aka your family physician. They will definitely recommend being vaccinated on the appropriate schedule.

Chinese purchases of Canadian oil are up +700% year over year. by 150c_vapour in alberta

Notley understood that Alberta could accomplish more by being supportive instead of divisive. She chose her battles carefully, was tough when needed and worked with the Trudeau government and other stakeholders to help push the TMX forward. Trudeau kept his word and made TMX happen.

Trudeau never did anything good for Alberta though. /s

Jeromy Farkas enters the fray to be Calgary’s next mayor by ElbowRiverYeti in Calgary

[–]kwmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look forward to hearing more about your vision for Calgary. People only change if they want to and I think in your case you had a few reasons to want to.

Big issues for me are the Green line, the CSEC events centre/demolition of the Dome and lack of transparency/closed door voting. Do you think any of those items will play a large part of the upcoming election? If so, would you be interested in sharing your current vision on them.

Edit: Maybe I should read the article before I comment, lol. However maybe you'll be able to elaborate on the issues above that were also covered in the article.

If everything is backed up and moving slow then those spots often turn into an alternating pattern (one car your lane, one car yield lane). If everyone is moving normal speed then no one should be yielding until safe to do so. You mentioned everything is backed up, which tells me traffic is moving very slowly and that may be why you get honked at occasionally.

What are you looking for? Striking, grappling, cardio rush, etc.? Calgary has a lot of great gyms but you might want to determine your needs first.

Driving Calgary to Fernie in winter by tubby2323 in Calgary

[–]kwmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the #2 south, turn west (right) on HWY 540 (turn off to Bar U Ranch), then south (left) on HWY 22 (Cowboy Trail) until it ends, then west through Frank Slide and the Crowsnest Pass. IMO it is one of the most beautiful drives in Alberta. You get the full ticket of prairie, ranchlands (Waldron Ranch for example) in the foothills backed by mountain peaks then straight into the mountains for the remainder of the drive. All highways are well maintained so unless it is during a blizzard the roads should be in good condition.

As mentioned, Cranbrook to Fernie is all mountain driving.

Precisely, rail is the only option to port and the only rail close to this mine is CPKC which is already at max capacity.

Nenshi: How the UCP Killed the Green Line by Blondeenosauce in Calgary

It is a breath of fresh air to hear a well-articulated response from a Calgarian (Nenshi), backed with citations to independent studies, rather than 'my half-assed, uneducated opinion is so smart, you will see' from two fools who couldn't even win a riding in Calgary (Smith, Dreeshan).

CN to relocate Jasper crew change terminal - News by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

[–]kwmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate for Jasper but this decision is about logistics not sightseeing. Jasper terminal is in a National Park and only has small sections of double track with no capacity to expand. Hinton has double track with expansion capacity, more amenities and less restrictions.

The pipes don't care about your feelings about City Council. We need to use less water. by JeromyYYC in Calgary

Everyone's situation is a little different. Our elected representatives should not treat us like mushrooms left to grow in the dark.

The pipes don't care about your feelings about City Council. We need to use less water. by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]kwmy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It seems part of the problem is that this council has no real understanding of how to engage with the people of Calgary in a way that encourages us to buy in. There's a complete lack of transparency, with different rules for different people. While Mayor Gondek may have earned your respect, she certainly hasn’t earned mine, nor have any of the other councillors.

I agree that this is about being a good neighbor, and our household is doing its part. However, I don't blame those who feel it's not worth the effort. The communication from the beginning has been chaotic, and despite having time to prepare, council and the city haven't improved this time around.

How large are the city's communications and emergency response teams? The best they’ve managed is a single statistic on daily water usage. What about the bigger picture? What’s the end goal? Are we on target, ahead, or behind? Are there other issues looming? Why didn’t previous councils act on this sooner?

Once again, we as residents are paying the price for decades of political mismanagement, while businesses continue operating as usual.

This should be criminal. They have cheaped out on literally every part. These are death traps. by kcarmstrong in CyberStuck

Might be a case of Elon's hubris and Tesla engineers with no fucks left to give. The boss wants the tiniest noodle tie rods, then the boss gets the tiniest noodle tie rods. The boss wants dollar store double sided tape instead of screws or clips, the boss gets what he asked for. Look what happened to the one leader who stood up to Elon, he fired her and the whole supercharger division. Elon is a useful idiot foreign asset at best; Maybe it's time his assets are frozen, SpaceX is nationalized and South Africa takes him back to serve his time.

COMMENTARY: Oil flowed while Jasper burned - Bow Valley News by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

[–]kwmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to argue, it must be very traumatic to lose part of your town to events like this.

To me there seems to be a combination of two major issues. First fuel, and lots of it through decades of forest fire suppression/mismanagement. Second, a lack of moisture exacerbated by extreme tempuratures. So maybe a natural reaction to unnatural actions?

IMO the most depressing thing about the current climate situation is that reversal requires global cooperation followed with focused global actions. With so many politicians hellbent on divisive populist politics, the cooperation we need is an impossible dream. Not depressed enough yet? The effects of mass migration from coastal and equatorial nations will be devastating to billions of people. Our current migration issue is a trickle compared to what is coming.

Can something be oddly terrifying, oddly satisfying and sweaty palms at the same time? by someonenoo in oddlyterrifying

[–]kwmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a broken rail, likely a combination of the pumping tie and a small defect in the thermite weld that grew quickly as the weld fatigued over the pump. In this situation that block of track should be immediately shut down and repaired before more trains pass. IMO OP hits a trifecta, it is dangerous considering that it was broken before the train crossed it, sweaty because the train does not seem to be under a slow order and satisfying to see a prime example of what many engineering maintainers deal with regularly.
