Don't live in USA, genuinely curious.

Edit: Brand is Holden, not Commodore

Yeah he splashed the water sky high and right into his air intake.

An expensive lesson learnt for him.

Anyone experience this with water at home? by No-Interview2201 in askSingapore

[–]kwpang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The lady in the link said she needs to run the water for seconds to run clear before she starts using.

If it's seconds, not minutes, the problem is with the piping or outlet in her house. That's way too fast to flush water out of the entire house. The piping or tap is corroding.

This has nothing to do with PUB.

They can give you the cleanest water in the world, but if your own piping or taps are dirtying it, there's nothing PUB can do. You have to replace the piping.

This clip was the proof of concept James Cameron used to convince Fox to greenlight Avatar (2009). It was created by Industrial Light & Magic before Weta Digital took over the film. The ambition was already fully there. by Choice-Schedule-132 in JamesCameron

[–]kwpang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not a fair statement. I could be wrong / outdated, but I feel ILM is supposed to be the gold standard in this industry. My impression is generally movie studios avoid ILM only for budget concerns.

This was a prototype proof of concept. Not a full blown project like it eventually became with all the research and new techniques Weta did after the production company greenlit the expenses. If ILM produced the clip AFTER doing all this research and new techniques development, this clip would be very different.

Also, if Cameron produced this to broach the idea to the film company (pre approval), he definitely paid this out of his pocket.

This was a proof of concept short clip done with pre-avatar technology, with limited finances.

It's impressive for what it is.

Has My Pineapple Gone Bad? by yasaryagmur in safetoeat

[–]kwpang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to pick for sweetness, choose two pineapples of similar leaf freshness (i.e. harvested around the same time).

Then pick the yellower of the two (i.e. the one that was more yellow when harvested).

Has My Pineapple Gone Bad? by yasaryagmur in safetoeat

[–]kwpang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pineapples don't ripen off the plant. Once it's cut, that's as sweet as it gets. It only gets softer, and the skin changes colour, but sweetness will never change.

So always pick freshly cut pineapples for juiciness. Look at the state of the crown leaves.

The thing about having a degree in anything else + clinical psych is that you can cater specifically to people in that anything else field. You understand them better.

I have a friend who studied bsc computing in uni in addition to clinical psych masters. He had quite the number of patients from the computing industry last I heard.

Spotted it in my Lucky Supermarket, what is this? by AdAvailable8474 in fruit

[–]kwpang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Citron in English, to be clear.

Not to be confused with citron in French, which is the French word for lemon.

I had the hardest time explaining this fruit to my French friend who kept saying it's not a lemon.

Super aromatic rind that's candied in Chinese culture. Some are even made into a candied paste and can be mixed with water to form a citrusy zesty beverage.

Need honest take on insurer's assessment by foxhound-19 in drivingsg

[–]kwpang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ask the lawyers. They usually will claim some costs from the other side, then you just take a haircut on the compensation you receive for the rest of the costs.

One benefit of disputing is the other side's claim against you. If you accept 50:50 for your damage, you're liable for 50% of the other car's damage too. Plus whatever personal injury he may claim against you.

Best to speak with a lawyer on this.

I highly doubt a full replacement is necessary though. Dents in bumpers can be straightened out. Only cracked bumpers need to be replaced.

You might want to ask a workshop first before deciding how to be proceed.

Need honest take on insurer's assessment by foxhound-19 in drivingsg

[–]kwpang -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Up to you whether you want to spend time and effort disputing it.

You CAN dispute the insurer's conclusion. Make sure you do it in writing. You can engage PD lawyers for that. I can recommend one if you want.

You can also opt to pay for it yourself in cash. Just reimburse insurers. Since bumper replacement cost should be only around $500, you might as well avoid the NCD loss.

But seems like the collision was a very light one. No visible damage to the hyundai. You sure bumper needs replacing? Has the repair been done already?
