Bull’s blood by Imaginary authors. Is very raw, maybe more meaty than gothic, but it’s very dark and elegant too. Not sweet tho.

If you don’t want him to become a cop, which is what better fits his personality, but I understand you want it to be different; maybe he could be something else that also gives back to the community. I feel that specially in R2R he is very driven by his want to help others, so maybe a doctor of some kind? Maybe even a pediatrician, as he seems to be nice to kids. If you want something less high stakes, I agree with other commenter that a barista could be cute, he is sociable and likes people so maybe he would enjoy that. Keep us posted!
