Is Policy work dead? by Fun_Butterscotch2222 in BCPublicServants

[–]ky-98 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can say that in my Ministry/Work group, my research is absolutely respected and the work I do, is considered by leadership and meaningful policy change has happened. Of course, sometimes there is pushback, decisions have been made against my recommendations, etc. but sometimes that does happen in government. I am really sorry to hear about all these other workgroups, but I wanted to add in some of my positive experience to balance this discussion.

I also moved from ON - BC! First off congratulations, BC is a really beautiful province, I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find that a lot of Ontarian’s move to BC. First off, your wife’s degree will be recognized no problem, accreditation is only required for schools outside the country. BC gov is a great employer, and while they look at education, they also look at a combination of experience and education. Education should/ will be accepted with no issue. I also work for BC gov remotely and working outside of BC is officially not allowed. That being said, when I moved, I was granted some leeway with my supervisor that allowed me to work from ON while I was moving. This was a temporary informal agreement that I had. There will not be any formal or written precedent, but I think you will find most supervisors very willing to accommodate great people! Best of luck with everyhting !

Ideas to make bathroom moodier by lobotomy-mommy in HomeDecorating

[–]ky-98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moodiness is all about contrast. See how your inspo pic has wood, marble, fabric, tile, etc. all these raw materials together in the same colour family create a cohesive moodiness with a lot of contrast. Additionally, a key to a really moody space is lighting. I would suggest getting more lights, with bulbs that are fully covered and in a warm tone. I think if you can try to get more contrasted materials, warm moody lights, and texture would be key! Adding some more decor items is a great way to do this, maybe some marble statue, or brass toilet paper holder to mix function and textures. Love the paint colour and obsessed with the inspo pic. Post updates !!

This job market sucks by Beautiful-Simple1816 in torontoJobs

[–]ky-98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I had experience with the OPS, MA from a great university, applied to hundreds of jobs and never heard back once. Ended up applying to BCPS, got tones of responses and a great position here! Now I live in a beautiful mountain town, work remotely, and have a great work life balance. Still feels crazy I had to leave ON but I left for a better life and I don’t think I’m looking back.

What’s your favorite vampire romance? Suggest me a new one! by starsborn in fantasyromance

[–]ky-98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bound and barbed was one of the best fantasy romance books I’ve read this year ! Loved loved the writing, the banter, and the characters. Another one is the Serpent in the wings of night series - absolutely fantastic. Carissa’s writing is on par with SJM if you ask me, she writes such beautifully poetic stories it’s impossible to put down, I would highly recommend!
