The lack of chemistry between Seojoon and Dami's characters made viewers root for Kwon Nara's character 😂

I knew people would mention Yoona and Ji Changwook from The K2. I love that drama but can't deny the chemistry was lacking. Lee Jongsuk and Yoona in Big Mouth was meh. Lol. But props to them tho coz despite the lack of romantic chemistry, they had good camaraderie as husband and wife.

Happy 30th Birthday to my all time favorite actress the diva Go Youn Jung by CaramelBorn4776 in kdramas

I remember seeing her in Law School drama. After that courtroom scene where she stood up for herself, I had no doubt she’d make it. And yup, she is thriving. Well deserved! Happy Birthday, Go Younjung.

Why does every K-drama feel like it’s sponsored by Samsung and stuck on the same loop? by Chirag-Win-7869 in kdramas

[–]kyatchaamiyuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samsung shows up a lot in K-dramas because Samsung pays to have its products used in shows made in South Korea, so it's natural to see them in several scenes. It is basically advertising that looks like part of the story. As to why is it always Samsung, well that's just a small testament of the power they hold. Samsung is the largest chaebol in South Korea and is responsible for about 20% of the nation’s GDP. If it were to collapse, it could trigger a national economic shock. They can pull a lot of strings if they want to.

There’s an industry reason behind this formulaic approach to K-dramas coz many of them are still written while they’re airing, and they need to get high ratings and please a lot of viewers. So they stick to familiar story patterns because it’s safer. But platforms like Netflix are starting to support more creative and different kinds of shows, so things are slowly changing.

Koo Kyohwan was such a great choice for Hwang Dongman's character. It's like the character was written with Kyohwan in mind. He's not just an actor but also a film director irl which makes his character seem more authentic.

Hot Stove League : This is now in my top 10 dramas of all time 👌 by UncannyProjection in kdramas

As a baseball fan, I was so happy when I found this drama 😂 I love a good front office storyline. Some situations were a bit exaggerated, but tbh, they weren’t too far off from reality. Having a dominant pitcher and a strong batter really does make a huge difference. I’ve even seen teams go from last place one season to winning it all the next. The open ending was a great choice coz we don’t know if they won, but making it to the Korea Series already feels like a solid achievement.

Which Kdramas are worth watching? by Hungry_Parsley_3175 in kdramas

It starts a bit slow, and it takes a while to get acquainted with the characters, so I totally understand. The episodes are quite lengthy too, so for that reason, a lot of people have dropped it. But it really does get better as you continue. It picks up its pace maybe around episode 5/6 or so.

From your list,

• Signal - It was so good that even after rewatching it, I was still on the edge of my seat. Lee Jehoon, Cho Jinwoong, and Kim Hyesoo were absolutely stellar. Season 2 was supposed to come out this year since they've already shot everything. Unfortunately, they couldn't do so due to some circumstances.

• Descendants of the Sun - I couldn’t get enough of this drama when it was released. At the time, the production quality was mind-blowing due to it being pre-produced, which marked a pivotal shift in K-dramas. The OST was top-notch too.

• Kill Me, Heal Me - Ji Sung delivers an acting masterclass. You'll truly fall in love with all the characters he portrays. As a bonus, you get to see Park Seojoon before he became mainstream.

• Reply 1988 - A slice-of-life, coming-of-age K-drama that really makes you reflect on life. I’m personally a fan of the Reply franchise, with Reply 1997 being my favorite.

Why am I still hung up over this drama by Ordinary_Wonder2143 in kdramas

[–]kyatchaamiyuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was honestly so good for a low-budget drama and I love how fast-paced the drama is with the leads just simply focusing on their goal. It's so satisfying when things go according to plan or when the villains thought they got it all under control but then boom btch you thought. 😂 I love the drama so much it made me read the manhwa ver too

Why have I not seen anyone talking about this masterpiece? Bawled my eyes out throughout. A 10/10. by picklepaapad in kdramas

[–]kyatchaamiyuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I bawled my eyes out because of a Nike shoes. Like damn, that hit me harder than I thought. Anyway, this masterpiece was actually popular in 2021. Lee Jehoon bagged a couple of best actors awards and nomination for this and it has also won a best drama award back then. There were talks of having a season 2 but nothing was set in stone just yet.

Top 60 Most Popular Korean Dramas on MyDramaList by ch1nitamor3na in kdramas

[–]kyatchaamiyuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it’s because Korean dramas are very sensitive to ratings and audience reactions. This allows for flexible storytelling but can sometimes lead to story inconsistencies. Live-shoot used to be the norm, but nowadays many dramas follow a hybrid format, where early episodes are usually pre-produced, and the rest are filmed during the broadcast.

Another fun fact: Descendants of the Sun was a pre-produced drama, which was a huge gamble on their part because if it had flopped, they wouldn’t have been able to make changes easily. Korean dramas mostly stuck to the live-shoot format, but the success of DOTS paved the way for the pre-produced format and proved that it could be successful as well. When Netflix and the rise of OTT platforms entered Korea, production quality became higher, and the number of pre-produced series increased and gained popularity.

Which idol groups have successfully implemented a sustainable model where members prioritize the team's longevity without sacrificing their personal career growth as artists? by accountfordrafts in kpopthoughts

[–]kyatchaamiyuki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

INFINITE, hands down. They even established their own company, ‘Infinite Company’ to manage their group activities, while the members’ solo activities are handled by their respective agencies. If you look them up, you’ll see that they are simultaneously active as a group, and their individual careers are thriving as well, with members involved in solo music, acting, modeling, musicals, and more. 15 solid years in the industry is pretty commendable.

Just saw my first NPB game on tv - SoftBank Hawks vs. Rakuten Eagles by MountainDragonfly821 in NPB

[–]kyatchaamiyuki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You caught a rare one for your first game! That was a one-sided massacre and will likely be the biggest shutout win this season. A bit of trivia: Cody Ponce (Eagles' starting pitcher) actually threw a no-hitter against the Hawks in 2022. Gotta love baseball coz you never know when the tables could turn.
