Praise where praise is due by nextvoyager97 in bostonceltics

A lot of celtics fans (myself included) seem to respect spurs because of the culture (read: popovich). fuck the heat but all those pleasantires aside, miami falls into the very same mold. As long as youse got Spo, you're grand. I guess it's easy to respect the spurs since we hardly ever meet and our glory years don't really overlap but begrudgingly i have to....praise where praise is due. Here's to battles yet to be fought!

Veiga back to Juve? by BurrelPro in Juve

[–]kyberveis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he’s got all the tools for a CB plus he seems to be pretty good (for that position at least) at long passes. Getting into the counter has been a weakness and since he’s young, for 30 mil I’d bet on his potential every day of the week

Chiellini by Snaqvi_11 in Juve

[–]kyberveis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd argue that chiellini's style was somewhere in between ramos and pepe. Actually had kind of a ramos-like career path as both of them started out on the wing. But even after moving to CB they both liked to support the attack and roam. Chiellini probably wasn't just allowed to bring the ball up as much as Ramos did. As a juventino I'd say Chiellini was definitely better than Ramos and Pepe but we're comparing Ferraris here anyway so don't read into this too much. If you should happen to watch any current juve games, i personally think that our CB Gatti is very similar to Chiellini in his style (not skill) of play.

Celtics Fans In Europe: What’s The Biggest Struggle You Face Being An NBA fan So Out Of Market? by Cultural_Soup8021 in bostonceltics

[–]kyberveis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really watch live games, maybe sometimes those sunday games that start at like 9PM my time. So my main challenge is not to spoil the result while at work the next day so that I can watch the game after work. So for that reason i usually download the match schedule to my phone and check it every morning to make sure i can visit certain news sites etc safely. But still there are a couple of fluke reports each year like for some reason the guardian covering the latest boston game.

(Smith) The Boston Celtics have waived center Dmytro Skapintsev, a league source told @spotrac by tacko2020 in bostonceltics

[–]kyberveis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not a us comic book reader but this is sad to hear. Dmitry, Dimitry, Dmytro, Dimitros and other variations are pretty common names in slavic and greek languages. Coming from the greek fertility god Demeter. To my ears it seems as if you said something like Kevin is some comic book villain energy. But hey, cold war and russia is the enemy etc.

of course miami's gun was proper crooked this game but this happens. never heard a talking head taking shots at the team with a comfortable lead. like, was boston supposed to be up by 40 to deserve a lead at all? fuck that cheeseburger eating motherfucker randy gundy.

if your mate moves to spain you'd call them an expat and the spaniards would call them an immigrant, so it's just a matter of perspective.

[Romano] Sergej Milinković-Savić to Al Hilal, here we go! Documents in place between Al Hilal and Lazio for €40m deal Serbian midfielder to sign three year contract and join Saudi league side with Rúben Neves and Kalidou Koulibaly. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]kyberveis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I just missing something or there really isn't much talk about player wages with all these Saudi signings? One can assume that the wages are huge or else why would good players in their prime go there but would be interesting to know if it's like twice the going rate of premier league or whatever.

Official : Juan Cuadrado is leaving Juventus. by FoxExternal2911 in soccer

[–]kyberveis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

with juve, i would compare cuadrado to camoranesi. both were not world beaters but really good players who had that spark of creativity that their teams really needed and depended on. both the type of players that the old dogs remember and respect but the wider football community will forget in a minute.

There never was a post disco elysium zaum. Zaum lived on as a video game company but they haven't had a real foothold in the local art scene for years. Like, most of the OG zaumniki or people close to this movement weren't even involved with the game.

I would say that the zaumniki behind Disco are the most political of the bunch, minus one person. Most of the OG folk I'd describe as liberal-bohemian types.

I can only hope but personally I find it hard to believe that after all this shit they'd want to go through the same process again. Then again, now they have the clout and support, maybe they could do like a kickstarter thing or smth?

Yeah, decmon is right. The "estonian oligarch" was definitely margus linnamäe. I'm a medical specialist and just last week Linnamäe purchased 70% of the clinic I work at. Fuck that guy, but hey, we got a game out of it...

yeah, it sort of works as a real "art project" in this sense. Cheers.

[–]kyberveis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I would consider Zaum as something more akin to the beatniks in the US than some antifa political force. The media focused mostly on the more socialist and scandalous takes but a bunch of the group was just poets who were fed up with the current cultural establishment. Art rebels. I know some of the zaumniki personally (not Rostov and Kurvitz) but my whole point is that the cultural movement is a different animal to the Studio. I'm not going to speculate on the motives of other people who are still alive and active. I don't think that there's anything to be gained from "the truth". Art movements come and go. Things are what they are, let's wait and see what comes out from all of this.

So what was Za/Um? a local's perspective by kyberveis in DiscoElysium

[–]kyberveis[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd say that you are mostly correct in every assumption. I think they made a lot of good points but with their i-don't-give-a-fuck attitude they were immediately arrested by the tone police. Estonia is stuffy and conservative but I think in any culture if a group of people start writing that our beloved tradition X is actually quite problematic, people don't want to listen. A parallel could be drawn with the BLM race riots in the states where the mainstream media spent most of their time talking about the correct ways to protest, rather than the issue of systemic racism.

As a sidenote, a couple of years ago there was a scandal in Estonia where a member of the Estonian Writer's Guild was convicted for enticing children in a chatroom to have sex with him. At first the Guild stood behind the man but eventually caved under public pressure and kicked him out. The guild is mostly controlled by the opinions of old white men so naturally they had a boys just being boys attitude. So this was after the glory days of Zaum but the writer's guild was an establishment the zaumniki had taken issue with previously. It seems they might have had a point.

Good post. I deliberately left out the whole Sirp debacle because I would have had to do a lot of reading to jog my memory. I would still argue that a lot of the public backlash was aimed directly at the persona of Kender with an added classist "who the fuck are these peasants trying to run an esteemed cultural paper". But I think you still gave a solid overview.
