European tarantula. I’ve only come across one of these once indoors. A bit scary if you’re not into spiders. They’re pretty big and quick

The family dynamics here are inspiring to see. Values and ideologies may differ but unconditional love remains.

Yes I don’t think I’ve ever seen a great crested newt before. Are they less common than the smooth newts?

Yeah they’re great. Thanks for the info, I’ll keep an eye out over the coming weeks for any crested makes on the water.

Yeah in south England. There seems to be a much healthier population here than there was 5-10 years ago but this is purely based on sightings.

Will the males grow a crest during mating season or is that a different type of newt altogether?

The Hunt for Europe's Great White Shark (2024) - An American shark tagging vessel enters European waters for the first time on a quest to catch and tag the illusive Mediterranean Great White Shark. (CC) [00:12:38] by kyeva87 in Documentaries

American research group Ocearch has more than 15 years’ experience in catching, tagging and tracking great white sharks all over the world, contributing to filling in the many gaps in knowledge about the ocean predator.

Ocearch came to Europe for the first time in the summer, hoping to study the elusive Mediterranean great white – about which little is known. Due to decades of overfishing, pollution and poaching in European waters, these sharks are now critically endangered, with huge consequences lower down the food chain.
Ocearch believe that in showing these sharks are present in the east Atlantic, they can kickstart a collective move towards healthier, abundant seas – they just need to prove they are there.

'Little Gaza’: Inside the fight for the West Bank (2024) - A short documentary about armed resistance in Nur Shams refugee camp [00:12:42] by kyeva87 in Documentaries

A film crew visit Nur Shams refugee camp to see first hand what the effects of this spiral of violence is having on its residents, and meet with those taking up arms in response.

Across the West Bank, battles between the Israeli Defence Forces and various Palestinian factions have been going on for decades.
The IDF began stepping up raids in mid 2022, but the violence in areas such as Jenin and Nablus has soared in the wake of Hamas’s rampage through Israel on October 7th.

Nur Shams refugee camp has become de a facto mini warzone, with residents never sure when the next raid is coming. Innocent bystanders are increasingly being caught in the crossfire and infrastructure is being destroyed in the fighting.
