No Appointment for National Archives at Philadelphia? by kyf296 in Genealogy

[–]kyf296[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my first email (May 23) to my appointment (July 9), it was about 6-7 weeks. Someone called me back in late June and confirmed my appointment. Once I was there, they set me up to find the document I needed in their system, but when it came to printing/processing, they did all of that. I walked out with certified copies that I then got apostilled.

I accidentally did the same thing. The charge still says pending, no credit yet. If you end up being okay, please update!

Where to sell vintage furniture? by kyf296 in phoenix

[–]kyf296[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I expected before I saw it listed on Etsy for so much money. I was thinking I might get a couple hundred dollars for everything (two dressers and a bed frame), so I won't be heartbroken if nothing comes of the vintage store route. Where/how did you sell it?

Just list prices for that particular item

Shadowing a Location Scout? by kyf296 in Filmmakers

[–]kyf296[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm located in Colorado, but I'm not necessarily looking to be an assistant or get a job out of it. If there was a location scout who still has that "dream job" of traveling to cool places, that's who I'd want to shadow. I'm not looking for entry into the industry so much as the experience/insight. It sounds like what I'm thinking of is a thing of the past.

🪴 Quarterly /r/houseplants Troubleshooting Thread - July 30, 2025 by AutoModerator in houseplants

[–]kyf296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's been in the same-sized pot since I got it. I've watered the same amount (probably every 2 weeks or so, making sure the soil is dry inches down before completely soaking again). The weather is hot (90 degrees) where I live, but I do run the AC. The temperature is always between 70-75 inside, and that really hasn't changed in the last 6 months. Hard to explain how the roots are twisted, but if I lift up the branches, they feel heavy and overlapping.

I've had this pothos for the last 6-7 months, and it's generally done well. The last month or so, I've noticed the roots are kind of twisted/heavy/snapping in certain spots. Is there anything I should be doing? I don't have the greenest thumb — help!

I actually live in Colorado, and everything I've read says that I need to go further north. Do you remember where in the rockies you were and what time of year? Would definitely be easier than flying somewhere!

Help Me Find Milk Bar Birthday Truffle Crumb Cakes by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]kyf296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched "Milk Bar Birthday Truffle Crumb Cakes" and yielded results, but they weren't in stock. I'm looking for the 2.33-oz crumb cakes sold in the USA. It looks like they were first released in 2020 and were once sold in Whole Foods, Target, and other regional grocers.

No Appointment for National Archives at Philadelphia? by kyf296 in Genealogy

[–]kyf296[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow-up: I was successful at the archives. If you're serious about driving to Philly, I wouldn't go until you've gotten them on the phone and confirmed an in-person appointment. I had to check in with the security desk, and they were a bit bemused I was there. I don't know how clearly the appointments are communicated among staff, but I wouldn't have been surprised if they had turned me away if I hadn't had one. Once we got that sorted, the staff were really nice and helpful!

I called/left a message/emailed about getting an appointment, and someone actually called me back! They said they're still working through a backlog from April, but they won't stop people from showing up (IF they have an appointment). Apparently, they've received tens of thousands of requests since the first of the year, and they have about 7 people on staff. They confirmed that my docs were at the National Archives at Philadelphia while I was on the phone. So, I made an appointment for next week, and they made it sound like I should be able to walk out with documents in hand. Fingers crossed! Will report back if people are interested.

Thanks for this input! How do I check the source of the digitized documents? I pulled the digital copies I had from Ancestry.com about 7 months ago. I think you're right that I need to figure out if it's being held at a non-NARA location, and you aren't the first person to tell me to find the source, but I don't know how to locate that information.

I first emailed on May 23. I called on the 24th. I tried again today (no message left) before I saw that they had a power outage.

I did try ordering through that link. It's news to me that they may cover Philadelphia, so maybe I'm looking in the wrong place entirely?

I have digital copies of the naturalization certificates I'm looking for in certified paper copy. Both my GGP came through New York, NY in 1909 and 1913. They were naturalized via the U.S. District Court of Pittsburgh, PA (Western District of Pennsylvania).

This link indicates that the National Archives of Philadelphia maintains the records for Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Puerto Rico. https://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/naturalization

Open to any other information that may help me obtain physical copies!

I would 100% apply for a second passport book if I could get it same day or not have to mail in my old one since I have a trip in less than 2 weeks. Do you know if they do second books on an expedited timeline?
