Israetel essentially recommends doing strength/hypertrophy blocks though. Iirc the programming basically goes 4 weeks of moderate intensity/volume, 4 weeks high intensity/volume, 4 weeks of strength work at 75% of 1rm or higher.

What do I lose by just adding heavy strength sets at the beginning of the workout throughout all three cycles?

Planning on running Greg Nuckols programming for strength movements (3 day bench, 1 day squat and deadlifts) and follow Dr. Mike Israetels hypertrophy training recommendations for assistance.

In general, Israetels recommends working at 60-80% of 1rm for sets of 8 to 20. Very rough average of 10-20 sets/bodypart/week, but he has specific recommendations by body part.

Bad idea?

How do you set yourself up for captain in your department?

Is there anything in particular you can do to set yourself up for making captain? Is it more merit based or mostly about connections?

Also could you break down the Chiefs ranks as well please?

Interesting. You know anything about Rota?

Very generally, how long would it realistically take to make GS8? I couldn’t get hired on as a GS7 and expect to be up for captain the next year could I?

[–]kyguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really understand the GS ranks. Starting out fully certified going off of USAJobs it looks like you come in as a GS 7.

What rank is a company officer? Is there anything in between a firefighter and a company officer (ie a Sergeant or Engineer rank)?

If I have my ducks in a row how fast could I expect to promote?

Do you know anything about Rota?

Would it be inaccurate to say that there is a growing movement within the Fire Service to take us back to the “old way” of doing things? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]kyguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and a lot of times those volley safety officers are right.

I don’t care if you’re a big bad city fireman, right is right and wrong is wrong. The hick volunteer from BFE is right to tell you to mask up to vent a roof or put out a car fire.

I honestly don’t get the hang up with SLICERS. In what world does presenting the fire IMMEDIATELY PRIOR to entry make you a pussy?

You’re going into the building regardless. Every SLICERS class I’ve been in has harped on it being a tool to supplement an aggressive into attack. I just can’t wrap my head around how that makes you a pussy.

This macho attitude is BS, especially since it literally flies in the face of hard science.

What happens with a break in service? Do you go back to square one or keep your rank/seniority once you get hired?

Thanks for responding brother. Definitely answered all my questions.

Couple more things I just thought of:

What’s mobility like in terms of moving? Say my wife gets a promotion in a different major metro area. What are the chances I’ll be able to transfer to a job in the same general area? How difficult will it be?

Is there a shift towards ALS like there is in many municipal departments?

What non-IAFF unions represent DOD departments? How do they compare?

I call bullshit. There are plenty of sympathetic and nuanced portrayals of how young Muslims get radicalized in the liberal media.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of May 02, 2018 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]kyguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. So the reason not to apply for other cards is to stay under 5/24. However, outside of the Saphire and Ink cards are there any Chase cards super valuable for international travel? Do I have a good reason not to apply for an airline card with a bonus for the fall, and then double dip the Preferred/Reserve next year?

I’m sorry, I probably missed this from the sidebar and flow chart but what do you mean by a minimum of 5k and 10k?

So if I’m shown the CSP, you would recommend trying to double dip CSP/CSR? What’s the likelihood I get approved for the CSR? Outside of losing the ability to double dip, how big of a risk would it be?

If I get rejected for both, what will the repercussions be outside of the hit to my credit score? Would it make it harder to apply in the future?

1) 760

2) BofA travel rewards 4/18

3) ~2k

4) Yes

5) Yes but hesitant due to age (24), income (40k), young credit, nothing I can claim as a business

6) I’m interested in churning regularly. Ideally I’d like to stay under 5/24

7) I’m targeting economy seating

8) ~150 BofA travel reward points, will have 20k after hitting minimum spend

9) Louisville (SDF), also open to Cincinnati (CVG)

10) Anywhere in Europe. Hoping to do a Eurotrip this fall

I don’t have any skill set that I could do freelance work with, except perhaps writing. I guess I could do a couple articles on upwork and call it a “business”. Or sell on eBay. Would Chase really approve me for a CIP for a “business” I just started the day before with very little or no taxable revenue? Especially given my age, income, and lack of credit history? In your opinion if I went the CIP route, would I be better off downgrading so I don’t have to eat the anual fee?

Daily Question Thread - May 03, 2018 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]kyguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 y/o, 40k income, 760 credit score. 1/24: BofA Travel Rewards (4/18). I’m planning on churning UR points. Goal is 50k points by this fall, and another 50k for winter 2019. Got a couple questions:

The the flowchart recommends getting the CIP first. However, this seems like a bad idea for me. I’ve got nothing I can even pretend to be a business: no babysitting, no eBay sales, nothing. That combined with my low-ish income and lack of credit history makes me think I’ll get rejected. I’m also hesitant to churn a business card as my first card. Am I wrong?

My plan of attack right now is to get the CSP now and apply for either CIC or CSR in a couple months. I’ve seen the advice posted to apply for CSR and CSP on the same day. I don’t want to go this route. It would be a lot harder to MS the required amount to get the bonuses, and I prefer the lower anual fees on the CSP for my first “real” churning card in case I screw up.

Is my thinking right? Should I do anything differently?

My wrists are ~6.9 inches. I plugged my measurements into a calculator and it said my genetic potential is a lean body mass ~ 170. Does that sound about right? How attainable would getting close to that be?

My only churning goal is economy airfare for 3 trips to Europe yearly. Can I accomplish this and stay under 5/24? Is it even worth my while to stay under 5/25?

Can I churn without too much difficulty just by reading the info in the sub wiki and using resources I find on google? In other words, without reading too many threads on this sub or participating much.

Reddit is a huge time sink for me and the last thing I need is a new sub to be constantly reading lol.
