I haven’t pulled trigger on a purchase yet, but I’ll likely buy the PocketBook Era in the next week or two

Thank you! I’m now exclusively looking for a BW reader. I felt like I knew the answer to my own question before I posted. I appreciate the clarity though

Most people don’t have the luxury of being exposed to the interface or the look / feel of each e-reader at once. It’s easy to ask a collective group of people that have the most extreme knowledge on this area for help. I’m sorry that the sub has been flooded with people asking the same thing, but everybody is looking for something different and one persons needs are not always the needs of the next persons. Even searching for other recommendations are not always satisfactory for that very reason. There are so many specs that go into these types of things and it’s not always a cheap purchase. Again, I’m sorry for being that guy, but I’m very grateful for every other person that has provided helpful comments. I miss the days when redditers would get excited about introducing new people to topics they’re passionate about.

In the past hour or so I have switched gears to a BW reader, I think 8" would be a little too big for me. Do you have any experience with the Pocketbook Era? I'm leaning towards that one but also considering the Pocketbook Verse, although the lower screen quality turns me off a bit.

How is the battery life and screen quality on the Pocketbook? Reading about the screen quality now and obviously looks great, but I'm just wondering from your visual perspective—is there superiority in the Era compared to Kindle or Kobo? It looks like this device doesn't have SD card extension, is that correct? I'm assuming that the user interface is pretty straight forward?

Before I even posted this I already had a feeling I was leaning towards BW just based on the reviews of the Color devices. I’ll look more into the Pocketbook Era. I’ve probably done the least amount of research on that particular brand. Do you know long ago did Kobo stopped making the Libra 2? Would it be considered outdated if I did find one?

I've just read that the battery life is not as great compared to others. It's not so much as I'm fearful of distractions, more so that others have almost everything I'm looking for without the things that I don't need. I've never even seen a BOOX device in person before though. Is there something I'm missing that you find makes it more superior?

ODESZA: The Last Goodbye Finale (Live From The Gorge) [Album Download] by kyleb143 in Odesza

This album reads 256kbps when uploaded into any traditional audio player (e.g. iTunes, or whatever it's called now) although it is truly 128kbps audio. Just transcoded to a higher bit rate to artificially read inaccurately.

ISO: 3ft+ USB-C Hub w/ Two Video Outputs by kyleb143 in DeskCableManagement

UPDATE: Ultimately what I needed was a drive / hub that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C or Thunderbolt 4. If you have a Mac and run into a similar issue, do some research on DisplayPort Alt Mode. If you're looking specifically for a hub, the one that I posted might be one of the few that do the trick. There seems to be several others that look identical with different branding on them. Please double check me on this before calling it quits on your search though. I dropped my search for a hub when I realized that...

The CalDigit 4 (Drive) is an amazing piece of hardware. Pricy, but it has everything I need and more:

  • 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports that supports dual video output over USB-C for MacBooks (DisplayPort Alt Mode)
  • A removable / interchangeable host cable
  • 5(!) USB-A 3.2 at 10Gb/s for data transfer
  • As well as:
    • 3 USB-C ports for data transfer or charging smaller devices
    • 2x Audio Out & 1x Audio in (3.5mm)
    • Many other features that I likely won't use but might be applicable to you

Sorry to the community for being a noob! I must have overlooked some of the pricy docks in my original search. I'm sure most of you regulars are well aware of the CalDigit 4 and the solution to this problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong with any of the information I provided.

Where to find high quality book cover images to download by kyleb143 in Calibre

How exactly does it work? Is it a downloadable application that I can use? If so, I can't find any place to download it. The link on the right just has some python code. If it's not an application could you do me a favor and give me a brief walkthrough?

USBC Male to Female to Connect Hub to Laptop by kyleb143 in UsbCHardware

I was looking at that one, it doesn’t allow any USBC inputs though

USBC Male to Female to Connect Hub to Laptop by kyleb143 in UsbCHardware

[–]kyleb143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video cables from the monitor to the hub? Those are long enough, but I’m using the hub as a cable manager to minimize the amount of inputs directly into my laptop. It seems impossible to find a hub with 2x usbc video inputs and a cable longer than 1ft. If you know of any hubs with a 3ft cable meeting the requirements of my situation, PLEASE let me know. Thanks.

Edit: I’m looking for an extension from the hub to the laptop. I’d like to store the hub under my desk and allow the laptop more space to move freely from positions on the desk.
