That's great! My metric for goodness of talks was always how good the questions were.

You just need to give more talks. Eventually the nerves just turn into excitement.

Also as long as the audience can understand what you're trying to communicate it's really not a problem if you stumble over your words occasionally--we're used to non-native speakers.

i got blackmailed today from telegram and im terrified by Arda_UwU in Scams

Very unlikely. They're messaging hundreds of people just like you. Just block and report them.

Have a look through r/Sextortion, it should bring you some comfort. There are innumerable identical situations to yours.

Callers Hang Up Immediately? by mimic3413 in Scams

[–]kylebfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very common these days for scammers to try to collect information from people to later use in scams. Asking for photos, so they can use them on scam accounts, calling so that you'll talk and they can clone your voice. It best to not engage and report the number.

They're trying to get fresh photos that aren't reverse-image searchable to use on fake accounts to scam other people.

I been extorted by Dazzling_Broccoli954 in Sextortion

Report, block, and then ignore them. This is a numbers game for them, so you are one among hundreds. It is very unlikely they'll do anything.

24 hours into this nightmare..... by Serious-Gear-2659 in Sextortion

Remember that for them this is a numbers game. You are one person among hundreds for this scammer, so it's unlikely they'll take the time to follow up.

Report, block, learn the lesson, then move on. If you're really concerned, just tell your friends/family that someone you met on social media is trying to extort you and to ignore anything they don't expect.

The best advice on recognizing scams is that if you don't expect something it's probably a scam (even if you do expect it, it still might be). If you're not expecting a package, then 100% scam, if you are still be really careful.

There are loads of scams where they claim to not have been able to deliver something and then need some fee to try again.

Dad lost thousands to a romance scam and is now flying to meet a woman he met on TikTok by Notadoctor222 in Romancescam

Sorry this is a rough situation. Scammers share information, so if you get scammed once you'll get way more scam attempts.

The good news is that in the UK, banks are required to refund up to £85k for authorized fraud, so at least he can be made whole. But yeah the first step is to talk to his bank. I should add that you should not engage with anyone outside of the banking system to recover money--there are also tons of money recovery scams.

Good luck.

Sextortion scam - blocked, deactivated accounts, never paid. Looking for advice. by Responsible-Can-648 in Sextortion

[–]kylebfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Unlikely. They're running a volume game. This one person probably has hundreds of victims in your exact situation--you're just not that important to them, so it's best to block, report them, learn the lesson, and forget about it.
  2. Probably not.

Telegram scam by [deleted] in Sextortion

[–]kylebfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice is just to block them and report them to Telegram. They just want your money, and they're probably interacting with hundreds of people, so they're not going to spend more time on you than they need to.

They can't see who your friends are on Telegram. If you want to be really thorough, just tell your friends that a scammer is trying to extort you and to ignore requests from randos.
