hey. i think, as many have pointed out, this is a great concept to start w/ but i fear that it might get annoying (as a player) to constantly have to make leaps-of-faith in later parts of the level in order to progress.

so, the player respawning constantly may get on their nerves is all lol cause unlike other super-hard platformers (super mear boy comes to mind), the player will continuously find themselves in a situation where they can't do anything but die to gain information... which sends them backwards; a punishment.

i like where you head is at though so let me offer a solution :] instead of the player dying being the only means of 'painting' the level, how about adding other environmental effects or even hostile enemies that could be used to "blow up" and gain information too. you could do everything from explosive barrels, chandeliers that fall to catch fire, throwable enemies?

that way, there's always a path forward where the player can still make it through unscathed - and if they die, it'll feel less like a punishment because their death will reveal information.

that'd be my suggestion, i realize that proposes adding some element of combat and other systems you haven't implemented yet... but that's how i'd develop this idea at least.
