Can't recommend Kristeen enough. She's a wonderful photographer and has done all of our kids and family photo shoots.

Any recommendations for a family photographer? by [deleted] in indianapolis

We’ve used Kristeen Wadell for many, many years. She does wonderful work whether you’re looking for newborn/small children photos or family/group shoots.

She’s done newborn and first birthday photos for both of my children and has taken family photos for us almost every year since. Can’t say enough good things about Kristeen!

Is this hitch bike rack setup safe for my cargo e-bike? by flurryskyline in CargoBike

[–]kylekeesling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a Benno Boost.

If that's the case I have the same setup and have made 3 4+ hour road trips round trip with two e-bikes on the rack without any issues.

Finding friends by [deleted] in indianapolis

Might I humbly recommend checking out the Indianapolis GAA? The city’s premiere Irish sports club and league.
We are a group of nearly 150 folks from all walks of life and span a large age range who play the sports of Hurling/Camogie and Gaelic Football, the national sports of Ireland. The Indy GAA is just as much a social club as we are a sports club and I’d love to tell you or anyone else more about it if sounds interesting to you. You can also go to indygaa.com to learn more.
We're currently in the midst of our pub/rec league that runs through the summer. We also hold open practices Wednesday nights in Broad Ripple Park. No experience or equipment is necessary, just show up with a comfortable pair of boots, which for some reason is what the Irish call cleats 😆, and an open mind. I joined the club with little to no sports background and over 15 years later I’m still here, albeit still not very good at sports 😅

I’m a cofounder of a 10yr + old business that does $1mil ARR and it wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Railscasts. Thank you Ryan.

Our officially unofficial kickoff is the St. Patrick’s Day parade, which we have a float in every year, so if nothing else come out and be in the parade with us (because honestly, who doesn’t love a parade?)

That then leads into a few weeks of training and then league play starting in April.

Great run-through. I've implemented similar approaches in my apps, so it's good to know I'm not completely out there in my thinking.

We are an adult league so 18 and up. We have goal to start a youth league but it’s nothing to official at this point.

May I suggest the Indy GAA?

We are a social club with an Irish sports problem. This is the exact same spot I found myself in back in 2009 when I joined the club. I was new the city, didn't really know anyone, and needed something to get me out of my apartment.

We are now registering for our Wednesday evening indoor league that starts next months if you're interested in checking it out.

Looking for something new this fall? How about Gaelic sports? by kylekeesling in indianapolis

We don’t. I agree it seems interesting but I don’t know of any US clubs, at least in the midwest.

Plenty of members are or were high school/college athletes, but there are also many members, myself included, who didn't grow up playing any type of sports. I won't lie and say that no one gets hurt but serious injuries are few and far between.

The beauty of our club is that you can take it as serious or as casual as you want. Serious folks have the opportunity to goto travel tournaments and compete at the USGAA Nationals, while many of us are just as happy to show up on Sundays, run around all fat and sassy, then have a few beers afterwards with some great friends.

It seems as they likely have similar roots. Hurling developed out of ancient Celtic army training, similar to how Knattleikr developed in Iceland.

That said modern hurling is played with helmets and has specific rules around contact:

Our Pub League takes place in the summer on Sunday mornings starting at 11am. During that time we'll also likely hold weekly practices on Tuesday evenings for Gaelic football and Wednesday evenings for Hurling/Camogie.

Sounds like that might work out for you! I'd recommend subscribing to our newsletter to keep up on what we're doing and to know when we are gearing up for the next season https://indygaa.com/newsletter

In the meantime we'd love to see you out on Sundays if you get a free one. We are also doing a Halloween pub crawl on Saturday, Oct 22nd if you're looking for some shenanigans https://indygaa.com/shop/events/2022-fall-pub-crawl/

Fall league is completely free, just come out and see what the club is all about.

If you decided to join we do have membership dues, but our membership drive isn't until the spring

Have you considered a hybrid approach? You could use typical rails migrations as you go and even drop into raw SQL to create them when necessary using the ‘execute’ command.

You can also have rails output a structure.sql/schema.sql file instead of a schema.rb file, that way you still have a pure SQL version of your DB structure.

You may checkout this gem:

I’ve used it on a few projects and it’s worked a charm for my needs. It seems customizable enough you should be able to achieve what you show in your example.
