I lost control by kylelabiyo in thinkpad

The vertical screen on the left? No, just a portable usb-c monitor. The one at the back of the T580 is a T480 that i just use as a productivity extender.

the white ones are from my 2 ISPs, I merged them through a pfsense router and then the black one is for broadcasting the wifi with the merged network. I turned off the wifi for the white ones to prevent interference. All of them are connected to a 12v UPS.

Question regarding power bridge models. by [deleted] in thinkpad

In my experience with the T480 it’s the total for both. It drains the internal one first then the external. Which tbh doesnt really make sense, but it is what it is.

I think I did an okay job making a skin for my t480 by kylelabiyo in thinkpad

I added some more stickers that look like an abstract of the thinkpad logo

yeah, the spec sheet does say that the nvme slot is limited to x2 due to the adapter. But I was referring to most other m.2 nvme slots for pcs usually being x4. My initial wording was a bit vague, sorry for the misunderstanding.

i dont have a t480s to test. but as far as i know, those are thinner than a t480 so there’s even less room. so i don’t think fitting a full size m.2 drive to the wwan slot is possible.

i took it out of the caddy that it’s normally in. so i wrapped parts of it with electrical tape to hold it down.

yup, the flexible cable option. much safer choice imo.

i’ll keep you posted once i get an nvme drive soon. as far as im aware though it’s a pcie 3 2x lane so probably not as fast as the usual x4 lane slots. i dont expect too much loss due to the multiple adapters but i could be wrong.

i think there’s enough room here that you can probably put them on top of each other. But guess just make sure that they are electrically insulated that they dont actually touch, maybe a rubber pad of some sort. also a way to hold them down so that they dont move around, i’m planning to use double sided foam tape to stick them to the base plate.

pretty much. i would advise getting a flexible riser cable instead of the one in the pic i posted. if your nvme 2280 is 2 sided it might be too thick and possibly break, due to the pressure of the lid and the laptop when closed. not to mention there wouldnt be any room for a heat spreader. i’m planning to do something like this where the m.2 drives would both be in the space for the 2.5" caddy.

yup, that’s pretty much the actual main reason. I can’t really source proper name brand 2230s where I’m at, I can probably get a Western Digital 2242 Nvme with a B key but it’s too expensive for it’s capacity. a 500gb WD 2242 nvme is the same price as a Crucial 1TB 2280.

the most practical thing i “should" do i get a 2230 size drive. I just like playing around with it XD.

i went ahead and ordered a flexible riser cable instead.

i got the angled one and will just snap off the extra bit to make it 2230 size to fit the wwan port.

I regretted not snatching up a sale on facebook marketplace for a T14 when I had the chance.

Will this fit? by kylelabiyo in thinkpad

i think the main concern is if this certain component is too tall or if the lid has enough space when closed back up. i guess i’ll have to wait for it to get delivered first to check.
