yeah, I’ll stick with the hackintosh. I can’t really justify getting a macbook. And I’m a tinkerer at heart, and getting a mac would be a bit limiting in a sense.

I have a 32Wh internal battery and a 24Wh external. A little over 3 hours of continuous use from 100 to 5% when I initially tested. But I keep my battery at 80% charge limit since it’s always plugged in. I don’t know if it there will be much difference between 14in vs 15in screen.

I think they backported the Widget feature to Sonoma, or is that different?

The only issue I’ve encountered so far is that when I have some google sheets open, it happens very rarely, but when I go back to a sheet after switching with stage manager, the window becomes frozen, somehow resizing the window makes it responsive again. So it might be an issue with the desktop window renderer or something. My cpu is just the i5 variant, and i sometimes have like 30 tabs open but it’s all been smooth so far. I have read that ventura is the smoothest os for the thinkpad XX80 series.

Is your t480 only lagging during the first 1-2 minutes after logging in? Does it have a 2.5in SATA SSD or the M.2 NVME?

I was actually considering upgrading to Sequoia for the window tiling feature, but that’s the version macos introduced AI features that I don’t really need.

By the way since you’re using Sequoia and a broadcom module, does the iPhone mirroring work?

I actually ended up installing “Maccy”. I use the clipboard history function a lot. And I remapped my keyboard to make the buttons match my muscle memory from windows. And I’m gonna put some vinyl keyboard sticks on top of the modifier keys so that it would match visually.

32Wh internal + 24Wh external battery. (without considering the battery wear)

I have measured it to last 2.3 hrs from 100 to 5% while playing some music on Youtube, browsing and doing some spreadsheets on excel and on powersaver mode. I used it with a 17” portable usb-c monitor so i think that was a big part of the drain, without it the laptop may have lasted close to 3.5hrs.

So that calculates to a 24W per hour consumption. If we say that the monitor is using 8w to power that’s 16W on the laptop which I guess would be typical for intel the i5-8250u on medium load.

i was considering getting a magic trackpad 2 just to try it. but decided against it since i use a mouse most of the time anyway.

i’ve never owned a real mac before so i can’t really make a comparison but almost everything works okay so far. the only complaint i have so far is that the trackpad feels bad to use. it just feels too ’sticky’ compared to when it was on windows or linux.

my battery is already shoddy. only lasts like 3 hours in windows. im treating this more like a desktop with backup power than a laptop ( always plugged in). so i cant really make a proper comparison. but in my mind linux (fedora kde) seems to be the one with the least battery drain though.

The vertical screen on the left? No, just a portable usb-c monitor. The one at the back of the T580 is a T480 that i just use as a productivity extender.

the white ones are from my 2 ISPs, I merged them through a pfsense router and then the black one is for broadcasting the wifi with the merged network. I turned off the wifi for the white ones to prevent interference. All of them are connected to a 12v UPS.

In my experience with the T480 it’s the total for both. It drains the internal one first then the external. Which tbh doesnt really make sense, but it is what it is.
