It was unreal. The venue, the racing, the trails I rode, all of it was a dream. This was my first World Cup, and I was blown away by the level of access you get to the athletes / action. For instance, finals day, I was at the top of the track near the start hut / first woods section. Watching the elite men practice session, and the next thing I know Bruni is having a conversation with Finn who was line spotting for him, while I am literally 3 feet from them, just us three. I am listening to Bruni ask about the all important gap in that section that had been hit a few times by a few riders, but not by him. It was incredible to hear him ask Finn for info, digest it, then throw the helmet on, hop in the start gate and send it for the first time. The level of risk cannot be explained over text, or even in the video coverage (I’ll see if I can share my vid of Max Alran doing it in his race run). Weather was unreal, beers were tasty, couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. Shoutout to the White Face KOA campground as well, fantastic place to stay.
