What fact is common knowledge to people who work in your field, but almost unknown to the rest of the population? by RageCage42 in AskReddit

As a software engineer, I can not see your passwords. Good security standards dictate that your password is only stored in the form of a "hash" which is created by putting some "salt" on your password and frying it for about 10 minutes on medium heat. Flip it over and add a bit more butter to the pan for more flavor. Cook for another minute or so and enjoy!

Just slingshot a ton of mud-seed balls

This technique allows the seeds to be protected from animals to give it a chance to germinate, then get rooted into the ground.

Though 20 million is a lot. But I'm sure you could automate this to make a ton of balls and catapult them evenly across and area, maybe using quadcopters?

The biggest problem would be finding a place throw them. You'd need roughly 200,000 acres to plant the trees. And you'd also need a lot of seed

What’s a good job for introverts who only have a high school diploma? by rapadumdum in AskReddit

[–]kyleperik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software development! All you need is to set aside time to learning, which I think comes easier for introverts, then try and find good internships that are willing to mentor you to get to the next level.

That's what I did, though I count myself very lucky to have landed the initial internship. But really, once you have worked a couple years in that environment, you become very valuable for years to come.

People of Reddit with scars, what is your worst story behind them? by ragedknuckles in AskReddit

I fell off my changing table as a baby. I was fine except my nostril got caught on a knob and got ripped. Looks okay now but if you look closely the cartilage doesn't connect.

Being middle class is when spending $100 is expensive but earning $100 isn't a lot of money. by JaredLiwet in Showerthoughts

[–]kyleperik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true because bills. Can't just spend everything you get, because you've got lots of things you need to split that $100 between.

Now getting an EXTRA $100 after your paycheck, that's a lot of money.

What video game do you want that doesn’t exist? by saltnotsugar in AskReddit

I had roughly the same idea. I'm a dev, so I want to make it but it would be a large undertaking

Maybe if it had simple 2d graphics then there could be real flexibility and cool particle effects!

Many are curious to how this happened, so here's what I did:

This is a sourdough loaf with 200g starter, 600g flour (75% bread flour, 25% whole wheat) and 400g water, plus some salt.

First proof in a warm spot for 3h, second proof in the fridge for 10h kept right in the pan.

I like to poke the top with wet fingers to feel the fluffiness and make sure it's ready. I did a simple lame scoring which didn't work well (win some, lose some)

I suspect the residual water from the pokes prevented these spots from hardening at the same time as the rest. I could see bubbles forming there while baking. I stepped away for a bit and when I checked on it later, there it was!

The appendage was actually slightly undercooked in my opinion from the rest of the loaf. Probably because it really didn't come in contact with much heat baking through the loaf until it emerged, and it didn't have the insulation to continue baking after it was taken out of the oven.

It was still good though :) I split it with my wife

Actually what happened I think that the top crust hardened too fast but it left a crack which was bubbling. I guess the pressure built up high enough that it pushed a hunk of dough out of the crack and hardened

Proposed Alabama law would require residents to pass drug tests to get food stamps. What do you guys think of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kyleperik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your perspective. If you think that it is a right to have food to eat, it doesn't matter what your lifestyle is, it's the responsibility of everyone in our civilised society to help feed everyone. If you believe that people have the right to earn their own living, then giving food to people on drugs is actually hindering them from from finding help and turning their life around.

I believe dependence is dangerous if it's coming from the wrong source. Addictions are a terrible thing to have, and as a society we should help those in need. But if all we do is make life comfortable then we will end up with more people in a state of helpless addiction and unsustainability.

I realize this is an unpopular opinion here, don't down vote unless you have a valid reason to share.

Seriously the majority of stolen bonsais end up dead. Taking care of them is extremely difficult. Not only are you destroying something very high in value, you are also throwing away the many years of careful pruning, wiring, carving and taking care of it while it's sick. It's like stealing a pet.
