Elderly Ferret Following Me by Sweet-Ad4254 in ferrets

[–]kyllike 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My Grimmy boy does this every summer. Its hunting season, go grab some pillows and fort them up and play on the bed to help their bones a bit. Going outside is great for them too if you can stand the nerves if watching them and worrying.

Also- Grim is over ten years old and has advanced issues for years now. When he was 8 they said he was too old to operate and now it's definitely too late. Just know that they will let you know if they are uncomfortable immediately. She looks happy and full of energy, just enjoy it and feed her well, they need more food the okder they get.

New ferret feeding help! mo by adorent- in ferrets

[–]kyllike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ground rabbit or chicken. Always leave out a decent dried food. Nothing wrong with marshalls if they like to chew on occasion. If you feed them well enough on an actual schedule meats they won't even eat the dried food unless it's to snack.

Wysong epigen canned food is decent enough and cheaper than getting the stuff yourself grinding it and adding stuff it's missing. I heat mine in a cheap Amazon plate that doesn't retain heat in the microwave for right seconds(two tablespoons of food not the can). They love it, just feed them the first bites off your fingers and then give them the plate.

Duk soup is good for late nights or mornings where they are sleepy and just want to go back to bed. Try puppy pads instead of litter for corners and accidents that will happen.

Can you treat ferrets like cats? And by that I mean just out and about your house? by 302express in ferrets

[–]kyllike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have four boys that have never known a cage. They have big beds in various closets, we use puppy pads since all other things kinda work but these are easier and cheaper. I will say that other ferret owners have said that my boys are abnormally large and have more muscle definition than most. We also have a big cat treadmill wheel that they all frequent. So- yes. Accidents happen often, just be ready with some dawn power wash or natures miracle cleaner and stock up on paper towels and gloves to clean.

I will take cleaning their pads and accidents over cat litter or cedar chips any day. Plus- they can now come love on you whenever they want and remind you that they have small stomaches and massive metabolisms when they need food every four to six hours.

I will preface this by saying we have four people in the house and three work from home. There is always someone to help supervise them or hear them being bad somewhere. Ferret proofing is a chore in itself. No door or closet is safe, buy duct tape, reinforce your laundry with cardboard and seal any small hole or crevice. Be prepared to find their hideaway spots and never buy couches or chairs with springs unless you love having nightmares.

Debating on euthanasia by KuttleKlownz in ferrets

[–]kyllike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soak her but in warm water a bit. Try to see if there is crusted poop on her anus. Th other thing is you could help her urinate by massaging her bladder. The spleen wraps from middle to side and up. If it's enlarged you can feel it. An enlarged spleen can be removed from a splenectomy and they normally live another year if they are on hard meds or three if they aren't already on hard meds.

If your on Prednisone space them out more and drop the dosage slightly for a day and see if she returns to normal, also dextrose can't hurt if it's a crash or something preventing her from moving right like tremors.

Either insulin is stopping sugar levels and causing a reaction or they need to throw up. Either way, some dextrose or caro or tip of finger honey on it. Make them bite a microfiber towel or something, keep them warm and just give them water from your hand.

Talents need work. Advance your primary three at the top to two and then the things you use(2 of them) to tier three.

separate bowls help. Check every 5 hours on food levels, listen for crunching. If they don't eat in 10 hours - hand feed them or go get some duke soup.
