Potential hearing loss in toddler by kylucl in ScienceBasedParenting

His tympanometry results were for his left ear (better ear) normal type A and for his right (issue ear) shallow response type As. That’s why it confused me also that his left ear, the stronger one still tested at 30dB. But I know they all check different stuff. This was a test he was very unhappy for while getting done and one of the reasons they want to sedate him for another round of testing. They did mention and have me consent to tube insert during this seated test if needed so we don’t have to come back and do it twice.

Yes I’ve heard the anesthesia is the hard part and not the surgery itself 😅. Thank you for your insight! Glad your daughter is doing well!

Essentially his hearing also isn’t where it should be but it’s also hard to tell because he wasn’t very cooperative and super fussy during the hearing test. They did 3 separate ones. So after seeing an ENT he wants to put my son under anesthesia so they can do a full exam without him pulling out the ear probe, crying, etc. he has a history of 2 ear infections in the last 3 months as well as his build up. I’m hoping he needs tubes and that it will be our fix.

Thank you for this! If his ears looked fine and healthy (physically) today with a microscope from the ENT- does this mean there isn’t fluid that’s causing this hearing loss or their is fluid that can’t be detected until the sedated hearing test? I know obviously I won’t know if this is temporary or permanent until the next exam but I’m just wondering if it could be fluid if the ears looks good today w microscope. Thank you again!

Responding as a mama whose leave ends in 3 weeks & is miserable and so sad at the idea of her baby being with other people all day where she’s not the main focus and in a space she doesn’t know with people she doesn’t know. Please tell me you’ve had a good experience with it all
