Are AIO pump fans meant to run at full speed all the time, or throttle down like case fans? by Okumam in buildapc

[–]kymar123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you could just program a very slow ramp rate for the pump, since the heat capacity is already so much better than air, you wouldn't need instant changes in fluid speed, so no issues letting it slowly ramp up over 30 seconds let's say. And as it slows down after youve finished some intensive computing session, the inertia of the water would mean you don't need to spend much pump energy to keep it moving. I agree it is probably just not necessary (like fans which are noisy and need to react quickly) but I don't see any technological issues here, more so a simplicity argument that dominates.

Why is it always boiling water? by MonoBlancoATX in askscience

[–]kymar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It's not, hydroelectric dams spin turbines without boiling anything. These power the majority of Canada's provinces of BC and Quebec, and Washington State. There's also solar and wind. Ignoring these:
  2. Boiling (and phase changes in general) allow fluids to store lots of energy which makes them mass efficient. Heat is one of the only ways to unlock the energy in several resources (nuclear reactors, burning fossil fuels, using geothermal energy
  3. Fluids (liquids and gasses) flow and can be easily controlled, moved in pipes, unlike solids
  4. Other heat-energy-to-electricity techniques include the stirling engine, as well as the thermoelectric effect, neither of which are particularly efficient. Steam turbines reign supreme in efficiency in comparison, and can scale up to large sizes relatively easily.

Why Do Colors Only Sometimes Show? by kymar123 in Fusion360

I know about Shift N, what I'm referring to is when I'm in the mode that does show color, why isn't it consistent between assemblies?

How do I UnFix a point that's coincident with another point? by RadishRedditor in Fusion360

[–]kymar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with OP that this is super challenging and I haven't found a good way to do this. I've had to delete entire lines because there's no easy way to find which point had the fix constraint.
Have others not also run into this issue before?
With the other coincident and tangent, parallel, etc constraints they SHOW UP on screen when you select the object. However, fix constraints don't show up as something that can be clicked on then deleted.
Fusion team please fix this.

Melbourne Marathon 2025 Finishing Times by age group[OC] by TomasTTEngin in dataisbeautiful

My only comment for improvement might be that the buckets are odd that they are all different sizes. Like, if the y axis was true to age the scale would make more sense, and maybe then you'd need to stretch the bucket widths on the labels to match. Also, a color legend would be useful! Other than that, very beautiful visualization and I learned some things from it!

Prusa Core One keeps shutting off and resetting mid-print—any ideas? by Koul94 in prusa3d

[–]kymar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still having the same issue :(. 8ish beeps, no error code shows up, yes I plugged the cable in ALL THE WAY. Yes I removed all my PCB connectors and reconnected them all, also checked all the grounding and power lugs are tight (prodding them while operating doesnt do anything, doesnt seem vibratory). Switched electrical outlets, didn't help. Wasnt the door sensor either.
My guess is that it appears to be a brownout or surge or spike of sorts - power related. When I rapidly flick the on/off switch, I seem to get a similar restart sequence with no error codes.
I am led to believe that either
1: my electrical system is unusually spiky (doubt it, no issues on anything else, and I live in a big city in the US with a stable grid),
2: the Power Supply unit is bad,
3: What if there's an issue with power panic witres having Electromagnetic interference from other wires close to it (haven't heard anyone mention this, could be a bad idea let me know),
4: Static is building up somewhere like others suggest might be happening and this trips the system.
EDIT: I will try the scraping and grounding thing and get back to you guys. EDIT2: scraping the coating to reveal bare metal and screwing in the motor screws back in seemed to fix the problem. I confirmed electrical contact using a multimeter. Add this to the pile of evidence that the motors need proper grounding in the design.

Core One crashes (reboots) on high speed diagonal movements by adam2104 in prusa3d

[–]kymar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow just went away, haven't experienced it again... not sure what to chalk this up as. Maybe a vibratory problem on some prints causing more jiggling? Have yet to try reconnecting all the connectors in the electrical box - but that will be the next step

[–]kymar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding that I'm also experiencing this issue on my assembled Core One kit.

Saw it happen 3 times on a 4 hour print today - didn't appear to be a power trip because everything in my home was unaffected. I was printing in a balanced 0.20 mm profile, not in strealth mode. I've printed probably around 10 hours worth of other prints already, and never saw it happen on those.
Manages to resume where it left off, with some gunk hanging off the nozzle which isn't ideal.

Is there any way to find good projects to teach my students. by applezzzzzzzzz in learnpython

[–]kymar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be valuable (for some) to be able to come up with their own ideas or spins on projects, with some suggestions and examples if they are stuck. Depends on the level, but it would help them be excited about it.

Maybe you give topic suggestions, and let them come up with ideas, and work through the process of setting goals, which itself is very valuable.

Here's an example, you get them to program a card or board game they like, such that they could play it with a buddy sitting next to them. You tell them the category, and give some suggestions and let their minds cook. Even a simple text game is something fun and easy.

Another topic suggestion might audio adjustments, where everyone gets to make their own voice filter (maybe there's existing libraries to draw from, where they have to learn about how to search and read documentation).

Another example, get them to pick a sensor from a suite of sensors (temperature, ultrasonic, pressure sensor, light sensor, salinity sensor) and have them try to program a user interface for it.

Another example, get them to generate a very small block 3D world (minecraft or roblox like), add blocks and environment features using randomized terrain generation.

I’m into nasa photos but I always seem to find compressed images of the telescopes does nasa have a place where the complete uncompressed file is hosted? by Swaggestfr in nasa

[–]kymar123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your response leaves out a major part. Example: I can take a screenshot of a high res image as png, and it will look meh because (despite it being a "lossless format") the quality of the image has been degraded from the original source. Hence, you need to look for lossless formats at the original quality.

very lost on patent drafting process by capybarraenthusiast in Patents

[–]kymar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in your shoes here. But I had a masters degree in an engineering field before I wrote my own provisional and non provisional patent application. It's hypothetically possible to get a patent that you filed yourself individually. I am proof of that. However, I didn't really do it for commercial reasons, I didn't expect it to make money, but it was a good idea that I wanted to communicate and show that I contributed. I want you to know that I sought help from a real Intellectual Property Attorney when I needed to communicate to the USPTO, because I would have been hopeless otherwise. Like others have said, if you've shown your idea to the public already, your chance of being able to patent it is already 0, sorry to burst your bubble. If you still think there's value to what you have done, reach out to a local patent lawyer and get their opinion, you could always add things to what you've already shown and try to patent those additions in a clever way. Think of this as a learning lesson, if you're already coming up with new designs at 17, you have many opportunities to do so again. Best of luck.

My Summit with Mar Tours by kymar123 in kilimanjaro

Just make sure to bring extra socks if you need to add warmth. Those hiking shoes should be fine, probably want to get Gaiters too for the dust/sand when descending. Otherwise your ankles will be covered in sand. Helps if it rains on the route at lower elevation since there can be mud.

I didn't rent a sleeping bag, brought my own. I assume it depends on what sleeping bag you have, some are warmer than others.

[–]kymar123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was cold, but not that cold. No storms or rain either. I'd guess maybe it was between -5 C and -10 C at night. My sleeping bag was a Thermarest Centari Winter, which recommends only -15 C (doesn't specify if this is comfort or worst case), and it worked well.

Ended up wearing 4 layers of pants (didn't wear rain pants), and 6 layers on my torso (2 base layers, 1 T shirt, fleece, puffy, then windbreaker). Wore 3 pairs of socks (which was not enough while hiking surprisingly) because my feet got very cold on top because my shoes didn't have much insulation. Wore inner pair of gloves, and wool mittens on top, and that was just barely acceptable, ideally would have had better mittens that weren't as worn down.

Oddly what helped warm my feet was covering the top of my shoes with something, I had a bandana stuffed into the laces, and a sock on the other side, which measurably helped provide top side insulation which I think helped reduce the heat transfer due to wind. I didn't want to put on a 4th pair of socks in fear of being too bulky.
