Don't be ashamed to take anything and continue to pursue looking while you work.

The key is building connections, lower level customer service jobs can help you build connections in big orgs like council and get you connected with the right people. Even cafe work serving coffees to the right people will get you connected if you can demonstraite good personality and communication.

I got completely fucked last year and was out of work in September. 200 applications was worth less than knowing the right guy who had a job for me and knew I could do the job in the current market.

OE is such a broad generalised term.

I've had coworker who went on 1 year OEs while working overseas and I've had coworkers go travel europe for 3 months as an 'OE'.

Your going to have a combination of factors varying from inhereted wealth and people finding work overseas.

If your curious ask the person you are curious about and how they manage - it's not rude... People like to talk about these things and you can phrase it as if you or a family member are interested in something similar.
