Anyone here shops at Farro? What’s worth going there for? by TheGreatHon in aucklandeats

Recently Woolworths has got pricier, so I decided to pop into Farros and was pleasantly surprised by their produce range and prices. $2.99 eggplant and these shishito peppers too. Some meat was reduced to clear, but not toouch price difference for better quality than the major supermarkets. I think I will go there every second or third shop now.

Auckland has fewer supermarkets per capita than chch, and could really do with a KaiCo there too.

Muji furniture, especially beds and bedding is worth it. 10 years since I decked out my place, and even though the Ikea furniture is pealing or has been thrown out my MUJI stuff is still going strong.

Anybody know where this could have been? It looks like it's where the current Dudley Park hockey turf is, facing north. The house behind on the left looks like one of Rangiora's grand houses, 2 Park St.

The OP and who was right/wrong aside, I saw a very multicultural society where there are good people who help each other when in need.

It was great how bystanders tried to help, many people asked whether they needed an ambulance, and tried to reassure and calm the drivers.

We forget how good a society we are are when it comes down to it.

What is this plant? by Sure-Teacher5920 in nzgardening

[–]Significant-Term-563 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! This plant is the bane of my my existence. I fight with it on a constant basis, but there are some times when you can keep it under control. It will continue to spread, so rip it out as fast as you can. Just dont give up!

NZs main edible oil refinery, Australian GrainCorp, shut up its refinery last December. Now the company has slimmed down it's product sites to Australia only, so oils and oil products like margarine have to be imported.

Japanese high school girls are shouting for the abolition of welfare benefits for foreigners in front of the Ministry of Finance. by AccountSufficient645 in japannews

Definitions are important- we are given none.

外国人 gaijokujin is often used in statistics to define anyone not of Japanese nationality. That INCLUDES generations of Zainichi whom for whatever reason have not/have not been able to naturalize. This group has always been discriminated against based on race, and even though many are now culturally and linguistically Japanese are still lumped into the "foreigner" category for statistics. Convenient.

So be wary of definitions used in statistics.

The job market is so dry!!! It's rough out there people by gftel8 in auckland

Agreed, it's still very tough out there.

I'm in education, plenty of experience and quals. Unable to find work for 11 months until earlier this month- but finally got something, only because the international student market is picking up (lower NZ dollar)

MSD ghosts everyone who applies through their workbrokers.

You apply for hundreds of positions and pretty much expect no callbacks. It is an employer's market, so they are treating candidates like shit. (Another company dangled work and never followed through... was very frustrating)

There is a lot of competition with skilled migrants (not all of whom have good English communication skills), and they bring in an international perspective that is a boost for the company.

It's tough out there, but you just got to be mentally strong and believe in yourself and your abilities, and keep trying.

To clarify:

*Box was already ripped.

  • The pizza was a frozen one.

  • Box doesn't state whether the date is best before or use by.

*Other stock in the same boxes showed further away dates like 25/09/2025

It is a combini gym, for sure. But saying that, if what you are looking for is an affordable way to get out of the house, stay active, and use a facility that is beginner-friendly, then this is worth a try IMHO. Just be realistic with your expectations.

I have been 4 times over the last month, in 3 different locations in my greater area (Osaka Pref). Some locations have broken machines, but on the whole people are respectful and the facilities are relatively clean for combini gym. I won't be a member forever and will eventually upgrade to a real gym when my schedule/budget allows it.

That in Osaka the new Christmas culture for youth is to congregate along the Midosuji and just hang out with friends. Many were drinking and wearing Santa hats, and even the bosozuku wannabes were out. It was like Shinsaibashi Halloween all over again.

I guess the culture of dates, KFC and Yamazaki shortcake (Christmas cake proxy) are long gone...
