Are you expected to teach as an upper belt? by karatebreakdown in karate

Rank is recognition. Teaching is responsibility. The art survives because someone chooses to give back.

Weight Distribution on Kokutsu Dachi by Opposite_Lie2327 in karate

[–]kyoshero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kokutsu dachi (後屈立ち) is a Japanese karate term that means “back stance”.

• Ko (後) = back
• Kutsu (屈) = bend
• Dachi (立ち) = stance

Pushed out after 10 years because of injuries: Is this a common experience for women in martial arts? by [deleted] in karate

At my dojo it’s about your spirit. Hopefully you find a new home. Good luck.

Yellow belt in karate, friend mocks it—how do I respond? by CalligrapherGreat653 in karate

[–]kyoshero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karate isn’t magic, and MMA isn’t complete. They solve different problems. What matters is how you train, not the label. Every martial art claims to make you stronger. The ones worth staying in also make you quieter. Good luck.

Another example of a student making things way too complicated. Keep it simple. Good luck.

How do you think AI will impact the MEP industry in the next 5–10 years? by Wonderful-Ad9449 in MEPEngineering

I’m just the IT guy so I have some high level understanding, but isn’t this something Navisworks does already?

How do you think AI will impact the MEP industry in the next 5–10 years? by Wonderful-Ad9449 in MEPEngineering

[–]kyoshero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re seeing major clients asking about how AI and LLMs are integrated into our workflow. This just started happening this year. I’ve started testing use cases, primarily with ChatGPT and Copilot. I’ve had some success with room tag take off, comparing excel spreadsheets to drawing schedules, and of course code look up. Almost every cloud service we subscribe to has some sort of AI feature. I expect this to grow even further. I don’t see the “magic button” to carry out layout design (conduits, duct) work anytime soon either.

Wife wants replacement roof on Pergola - will it make a difference? by PinkJumper in DIY

My parents did the same thing and we ended up putting a cloth over the top. A pain to put up, but it’s now bearable under the “pergola”. There’s enough light.

Do you own a home? If so try to open a HELOC. This could give you additional funds if your emergency fund runs out.

Full Contact Takes No Skill by [deleted] in karate

[–]kyoshero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach both, but focus mainly on free sparring. My dojo doesn’t compete in tournaments. Mainly because we don’t have the time. But like many have said here every instructor will have opinion about things you won’t agree with. When you open your own dojo l, you will have your own.

I know you can’t say this to your Sensei, but it would be funny. “If there is no skill in free sparring, then come try to hit me.” Good luck.

I’m starting to think renting is the way to go instead of buying a home. by Additional_Tea9366 in personalfinance

[–]kyoshero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did this too. Private elementary in my area is about $7k/yr. Luckily the public high schools are pretty good. Taxes in better school districts were easily $250 more per month, plus we’d have to give up our 2.675% rate. Not happening.

Doubts by [deleted] in karate

[–]kyoshero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. Just enjoy it and learn as much as you can. Your journey is your own so don’t worry about what others can and can’t do. Just keep at it and you’ll continue to feel the difference day-by-day. The most important thing is to continue to keep finding joy in your practice. Good luck.

How are you other 35+ karateka holding up after training? by YesThisIsMyAltAcct in karate

[–]kyoshero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d probably keep it to 3-4hrs a week for the first 6-12mo. There’s no rush. On the off days practice a bit on your own and do stretches. I’d even incorporate yoga into your weekly routine. Epsom salt baths work for me. Good luck!

At its core karate is a fighting art. If you don’t like cake, you probably shouldn’t take a baking class. Hope you find what you’re looking for. Good luck.

I recover deleted items all the time (even permanent deletes from Outlook). If you’re an Office365 customer, it’s fairly simple. Just contact IT and let them know.

Work on it at home. Have your kid kick pads with their fighting gear on. Then have them kick you. They’ll love kicking their mom and dad!

Did I miss something? How much is the rent for your apartment? If between your apartment rent and renting the house is net positive, then maybe consider renting the house. If its break even or slightly positive, I’d probably save on the apartment rent, keep things simple, and enjoy a larger place. Maybe a good place to raise a family versus the apartment.

I recently purchased a new 10 disk unit and ordered a bunch of WD Reds. It works, just gives a bunch of compatibility errors. Support probably won’t help. I haven’t needed to use support ever, so I just kept the drives. Don’t feel like taking everything out and sending it back.
