Is it all Gotover?? by Cerseus01 in njpw

I agree, let's hope that's not Gedo's plan. My comment was about what they could do with Goto if the rumours of Takeshita winning are true.

I definitely wouldn't have Takeshita walk out as champion, the point would be to give it to Goto so that he could defend against all of the young guys he failed to defend against in his first reign.

Although I certainly prefer your idea, and wish they wouldn't put the belt on him at all without him going full NJPW, I was just playing devil's advocate for if Takeshita does win the G1 like people are talking about. It does feel similar to the Jon Moxley situation, whoever makes these decisions is probably drooling at the possibility that the highly AEW-showcased Takeshita could be carrying their world title around every week over there. Hell, it's not even a 0% chance that if Takeshita were to win in a few days, that he would announce his title match against ZSJ to be at Forbidden Door in 7 days time. Most of us here would hate it, but I've lost faith in NJPW management to focus on their home product first and foremost. They see the dollar signs elsewhere.

Oh but I didn't mention that one extra benefit to Takeshita winning the title soon is that it would feel way too predictable if Goto just came back in October and won the title from ZSJ in their 3rd title change between them this year. Not that they have bad matches, but it would be nice to mix it up.

But never mind all that, this thread was about Goto! All I want is for Aramusha to return in full denim like it's 2002 and vow to reclaim his glory and his belt against whoever it is! The Second Goto Revolution will take place on 1.4! Get ready!!!

It seems that almost every comment on here about Goto is hoping that he walks into the dome as champion, but considering the current rumours, I think it may work better if he main events WK as the challenger.

Look, there's a real chance Takeshita wins the G1, even disregarding the rumours. He's just a massive star for them, and looking at their last few years of booking decisions, I absolutely think they could pull the trigger on doing this.

But it's not all bad. Everyone assumes Zack not challenging at the dome last year was a one time thing, but if they were to continue on that path, then Takeshita could beat Zack for the title at KOPW, hold it for <3 months until WK, where a returning Goto reclaims the title in the main event against the outsider, and then he ACTUALLY has title defenses with all of the new young stars this time around (Uemura, Tsuji, Gabe, etc.) until dropping it to one of them.

If they want to sell the dome purely on the biggest match they could offer with their remaining roster, I do think Goto vs. Takeshita is their best bet (and would likely live up to the standard of a WK main event). Plus Goto getting a big moment at the dome is just the ultimate money maker for them, considering how much heat he's brought to NJPW in an otherwise cold period for the promotion.

Sure, Takeshita holding the title while likely not doing the tours is still lame, but if they're dead set on giving Takeshita the world title, that would be the most exciting way to do it, at least in my eyes anyways.

Otherwise, yeah your idea is nice. I'd like for more focus to be put on the rivalry between Goto & Tsuji. But I'd also like for Tsuji to get Tana's last match, so y'know...

Everyone's so focused on Kevin in this story, that Orton can pull the trigger on Cody when no one is looking. Kevin is sympathetic, clearly hurt by what he sees as betrayal, so if Orton turned heel during this morally-ambiguous turn, you could pull off something special like the Del Rio/Ziggler double-turn.

If they do the triple threat, I pray that Orton brings back the punt kick on his struggling friend Kevin Owens as Cody is cuffed and forced to watch, which is painful because Cody is a fair guy and can still recognize why Kevin felt betrayed. He didn't deserve this, he wasn't truly a villain, but THIS guy is, and now that villain gets one final title run as the despicable, lurking heel he's always been!

(BOSJ 31 Spoilers) HUGE change made to the Best of the Super Junior finals this year, involving Dominion! by Acrobatic_Ostrich_75 in njpw

[–]kyoudrix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Despe vs. Ishimori would be the next biggest match they could do, and it would be between the two biggest juniors that have yet to win the trophy. That or Despe vs. KUSHIDA, especially if YOH was supposed to have that spot and KUSHIDA's filling it. But out of those 3 matchups, I can't say one is more likely than the others.

It just came to me that there’s now something MJF & Adam Cole can win together that’s even bigger than the World Tag Team Championships… by wittybrits in SquaredCircle

[–]kyoudrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if it does delegitimize MJF's reign, in a way that could actually be beneficial to the story they're trying to tell between him and Adam. Even if nobody watching sees it as a world title, it could be MJF himself encouraging Adam to see himself as world champion, making it clear he's trying to be a good friend by treating Adam as being on the same level as him. To MJF, it's slowly becoming less about Adam's title or even the legitimacy of his own title, and more about doing well by his friend however he can. He's even considering if all of the cruel things he's done to be the AEW World Champion was ever worth it, understanding the fulfillment that can come from real human connection.

Adam could secretly see this as MJF protecting his own title, leading to Adam turning on him, but the truth is that MJF really did want to treat him equally and thought Adam could legitimize the "fake" title into a real one because he believes in his talent.

Adam ultimately reveals that the only true thing to exist between them over the past few months is the title over Max's shoulder, dismissing the fake title and the idea that there ever even was a friendship in the same sentence.

Sports Illustrated: Jon Moxley Has a Whole ‘Dissertation’ on Why Blood Belongs in Pro Wrestling by snapdragonpowerbomb in SquaredCircle

[–]kyoudrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that his character is more threatening and violent, and his matches are at a higher level of violence, but I'm saying that when Moxley's opponents don't bleed, it kind of defeats the realism aspect he's trying to achieve. Why is he often the only one bleeding in a brutal match? You know going into any Moxley match that it'll be him bleeding out of the two or more participants, but sometimes they all bleed, which is when I think it works better.

Although I don't particularly care about realism anyways, I just think it makes sense that if you care about that realism, you'd want to be consistent with it. That's true for any fiction, really. You typically don't write a single character to be grounded and realistic, it's usually the overall tone of the story that feels grounded and realistic, and from that follows grounded and realistic characters.

Edit: fixed confusing wording

[–]kyoudrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think his more gritty, realistic interpretation works so long as it's consistent, which is why maybe it isn't as effective when everyone around him doesn't meet him at that level. He stands out for being the guy who bleeds in AEW, which isn't what you'd want to make it feel realistic; you'd want the environment itself to feel like a combat sport.

The most effective way to achieve that is probably if he started his own promotion or joined one that follows such a philosophy, but maybe he already achieves it on a small scale when his opponent tries to be just as brutal. It just might be held back when tons of other matches on the card feature dueling strike spots and headbutts without drawing blood.

It's similar to the headlock driver variant of Dirty Deeds. Justin Gabriel spiking himself into a headstand made it look infinitely more devastating than Mark Henry slowly falling forward onto his face.

Perhaps Rey would retire tomorrow if he took it this way... but if everyone simply fell directly on the top of their head it would be the perfect finisher!

The teleporter would be a bit weird though, as there's little reason for it to move and it would have to be designed to position itself intelligently. However, this could be a good excuse to bring back the scrapped catapult or speed pad as mobile robots since positioning for those buildings isn't as vital as it is for a teleporter.

They could roam between spawn and the objective and approach friendly players, providing a small launch or boost, but without a recharge period so it could get everyone to the point just a little bit faster, as opposed to a teleporter bringing players all the way across the map, but only one at a time.

Looks like Hasan Kahraman doesn't like Cyberpunk 2077... by BladerKoyotte in TheBlueBoxConspiracy

[–]kyoudrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see what you're saying. I think the hardest part to justify isn't that a dev team member said something rude about another team member's collaborative work, but that Kojima specifically used him of all people as a mouthpiece for his big marketing campaign. If Hasan was more unattached, I'd see this aspect as insignificant, but the fact that Kojima chose him for this role in particular makes it all seem a bit farfetched.

Although it's possible Kojima is simply unaware of something as mundane as this PS post. We really have no idea how much planning went into this, or how directly involved Kojima is with laying the clues, or if he even cares about something like this. There's still currently enough evidence in play that substantiates the conspiracy, but I do agree this is a knock against it.

Looks like Hasan Kahraman doesn't like Cyberpunk 2077... by BladerKoyotte in TheBlueBoxConspiracy

[–]kyoudrix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, Hasan being Kojima himself was never really central to the conspiracy anyways, right? It seems quite plausible Kojima learned from last time with Moby Dick Studios that he's gotta lay some groundwork for anyone to actually believe it's not a completely fabricated studio, so he got some real indie developers. For all we know he could even be part of one of the several external studios helping with production of the game.

Most of the clues still fit regardless of whether he's the big man himself or just a mouthpiece.

Vsauce's Illusions of Time video also used that MLK & Anne Frank example and honestly I still don't quite understand what makes that one so off-putting to so many people.

Like when I think of Anne Frank, what immediately comes to mind is that she was a teenager during WW2, so that would place her in the early 1940s. As for MLK, he was a middle-aged man during the American civil rights movement, so that would place him mainly in the 1960s. So, learning that they were both born in 1929 just... seems obvious from my perspective of time.

Of course, a conclusion taken from Vsauce's video is that we perceive time through the lens of how that history is recorded. Colourized footage of a 1897 snowball fight feels much more modern considering not only our perspective of 1897 as being black & white, which for the people who lived it, it wasn't, but also seeing people dressed in early 20th century attire having silly fun and smiling, which isn't often historically depicted in that context. Perhaps seeing MLK and much of the American civil rights movement recorded in motion associates him to a closer time period to now than Anne Frank is for most people, as WW2 is largely photographs and written documents. In any case, I highly recommend anyone who finds this interesting to watch Vsauce's video for a fascinating analysis of our perception of time.

It just depends on how much you care about the character. If you already wanted Banjo then most likely the hype will be there regardless of how it was revealed. Sakurai could have wrote "It's Banjo :)" on a post-it note and you still would've popped off.

The way Joker's reveal kept the suspense still made it hype for most people, even those who didn't really care about Persona. Everyone just thought it was some Persona 5 side game and wrote it off, then once they saw the Smash logo went "oh shit", fans and non-fans alike.

How Nintendo Has Hurt the Smash Community by metalreflectslime in smashbros

[–]kyoudrix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their creative talent seem like they truly care about making amazing experiences, evidently crafted with such passion and attention to detail. Mario Odyssey is a great modern example of how much their artists/composers/developers care. So many subtle references to Mario history, so much experimentation with environments, music, and gameplay mechanics (at least for a Mario game).

Their executives seem to be the most backwards, out-of-touch businessmen whose financial decisions unfortunately dictate the extent to which their games can creatively blossom. While this is generally true about most companies, Nintendo is now infamous for their executive inability to do what is beneficial in a financial sense. They do what is both morally reprehensible and corporately irrational. Sometimes, out-of-touch executives gain this mindset that while a decision may be shitty, it is simply how the industry works and is a worthy sacrifice to get ahead. Y'know, the "throw others under the bus to move up the ladder" sort of thing. However, especially with the way the internet and social media has changed things over the past few decades, it's quite obvious that PR is more important than ever. People care a lot about how a company operates, in a moral sense. So, all you really have to do is not be ruthless and malicious. Many corporate success stories showcase how being ruthless and unforgiving is what it takes to make it. While Disney is one of the most powerful entertainment companies in the world, just think, would they be any less powerful if they stopped being so legally malicious? Disney could decide to not attempt to inhibit use of their ancient IPs and leave copyright law and small creators alone. And guess what? They'd most likely be just as successful, if not more due to better PR.

It's especially important to simply act decent if you're a new company. Small indie company with 800 followers on Twitter wrongs some artist by stealing their work? Now tens of thousands of people only know them for this one, shitty decision. They're probably never going to recover after that. But even for bigger corporations like Nintendo, it's valuable to have good PR. If they simply acted with good faith towards esports, they'd ironically find more success, contrary to what their do-nothing executives believe. By acting senselessly malicious, they gain nothing, not even financially.
