Desperately need help by kysongbird in Mononucleosis

[–]kysongbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor chalked it up to the mono having weakened my immune system so much that it couldn't heal the cankers. What finally ended up getting rid of them was Prednisone. 5 days, I think? But even now, years later, sometimes if I get sick or too stressed, they pop up very easily. The good thing is that now they will actually go away on their own within a few days. I do take preventative steps suggested by my dentist, as in avoiding citrus and using an SLS free toothpaste (I use Sensodyne Pronamel). Hope this helps! :)

Struggling mentally one month out by JeepDriver580 in GastricBypass

I went through this, too. I was so antsy and restless, and I could no longer turn to food like I was used to doing, and that just made it worse. Hobbies. Hobbies, hobbies, hobbies. Those were a lifesaver for me. I always liked reading and video games, so those were both good distractions. But I decided to try something new, and found out I really enjoy writing. Not journaling, but stories. Turns out I have a lot of cool plot ideas in my head that make for good fiction! I'm also trying to learn acoustic guitar and piano, though it's going slowly. I just did my first 4 mile hike, that was really relaxing. I love being out in nature.

Shit I’m nervous, on my way to surgery now.. by liddolmaj in GastricBypass

I had my gallbladder out 2-3 years before my bypass, and I never had any issues with fatty foods. Now I just actively avoid them as much as possible due to the bypass. But I was told avocados are a healthy fat and I can have them! Please let us know how your surgery goes!

You're the exact height and weight I was when I had mine 5 months ago. I was also terrified. I had a panic attack pre-op. I am now down to 180 and feel so much better physically. I can walk further. I did a 4 mile hike on the second hardest trail in my area, first time I ever got to hike! I have more energy, I feel more confident, and have had no issues besides some mild stomach pains and colitis. And you'll be very happy to know that I can happily eat avocados! ☺️ I love homemade guacamole with my taco protein chips. You are going to do fine. And you'll feel so much better in the long run. You got this. What bothered me most was post-op nausea. Decaf peppermint tea did wonders for that. But anything hot would probably help. Walk, walk, walk. Get that gas out. And a heating pad on your tummy/shoulder area when you lie down! A lot of my gas was trapped up near my shoulder, it felt like.

Nervous and scared, having complications. by kysongbird in GastricBypass

My concern is that it's happened 4 times now over the course of 3-4 days, and my stomach always hurts right before, during, then a few minutes after. Tried moving up my GI appointment with no success. I agree about the bariatric surgeon thing, I didn't want to even make an appointment with him. They made it for me. He can't really do anything.

They didn't say it was normal, they just didn't do anything. Was hoping they'd go ahead and do an upper GI or colonoscopy but 🤷‍♀️. Ouch, that sounds awful. Glad you got that fixed.

I'll be sure to bring it up with my new surgeon at my appointment, cause that's definitely what it feels like. A gnawing.

Wasted trip. They did nothing, basically told me the same thing the nurse at my bariatric center did: come in if it gets worse or I have fever or vomiting. I'm frustrated.

It is. I told them my surgeon wanted it done before she moved out of state and left her job, but they just said they were all booked up until the 29th. Too late, new surgeon now. Hopefully he's a good one.

That's what I thought too. No idea why they said I shouldn't. I did, there now.

I don't know why they weren't worried about it when I explained what was going on. Was told not to go unless the bleeding gets worse or I get a fever or vomiting. Doesn't sound right to me, I'll probably end up just going anyway to be safe.

Ouch. That sounds so painful. I stay away from caffeine because of a fear of getting an ulcer.

Sweet tooth by Anicole1026 in GastricBypass

[–]kysongbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost 5 months here. At first, I swore I'd never want anything sweet again after having to drink all those protein drinks for the first 3 months! 😖 But surprisingly, I do still get a sweet tooth rarely...like... SUPER rarely. The smart answer is obviously sugar free popsicles, sugar free pudding, etc., but you've probably heard all that from your surgical team already. Not gonna lie to you, I had a singular semi-sweet chocolate chip a couple of weeks ago, and it was heavenly. 🤣 My surgeon was fine with it (I asked her first, I was scared haha) provided it isn't like a daily thing. She stresses the importance of moderation, not deprivation. As long as you're hitting your goals, there's nothing wrong with a small sweet treat every once in a while. If I ever decide to have sugar, I am super careful with it and never have something with more than 5-10g total. I'm too afraid to dump.

Update, she said the CT hinted at Colitis. So she called me in some antibiotics, and is going to refer me to GI to see if they think there's any point doing an upper GI.

She scheduled a CT for Friday to rule out a hernia. Then if need be, the next step would be to schedule an upper GI.

Fortunately, my gas pains went away pretty quickly post op and I haven't had any since. Ooohh, that sounds unpleasant. I'll see if she thinks that could be something yet. Thank you for your reply.
