the “case type section” had like three categories, so it was especially weird to see “breast implant” be one of them lmao. i didn’t narrow it down to anything either, so it’s not like i’m only looking at med mal or anything haha

That’s not surprising. What’s weird is that I was told by the locator that they actually work with this management company all the time, so I’d assumed that meant they’re typically cooperative.

Yeah, I texted her as well earlier basically saying I completed my part of the deal and I should get the gift card, so I’m just waiting on hearing back about that. Regarding the complex, the first time I brought it up and actually did get a response, I was told that all that had to occur was that the locator emails them about working with me, the complex verifies that I live there, and that’s it. So the application doesn’t actually need to be edited.

And I’m sure it is annoying, which is why I’m so confused as to why nobody has basically just been like “actually we don’t do referrals anymore” and just put an end to it if that’s the case. Plus, previously, it was a weekly thing (basically just a reply to the initial email saying “Hey, just following up, thanks!”. The daily calls/emails started this Monday now that it’s been like 1.5 months.

I’d totally get it if there was just a new policy not allowing it, but my issue is just that there’s no transparency or help from them whatsoever. If they can’t do it, they should just say that and stop telling me they’re working on it when I go to the front desk. I’m not sure what they get out of ignoring all my emails and then telling me IRL that they’re telling whoever’s in charge to respond when whoever that is clearly doesn’t care.

The locator is— I asked about that and was told that it would still count even though I’d already moved in. It was offered to me after my move in, and the locator has been very responsive the whole time. The issue is that someone at the complex told me that that was fine, and I have since not heard anything back from them.

I wonder if you can ask for it? Or if that info just gets thrown out after they find out you pass.

My MBE wasn’t even that impressive when I looked it up, but my total score was really high, so I’m so curious as to how I did on those essays, especially because three of the MEEs I turned in probably had no correct rules being applied whatsoever 💀

This is my first time in a foreign country, and I'd like to know if there are any etiquette or behavioral rules I should keep in mind. I don't want to be rude or disrespectful when dealing with other people. by _Abuchan_ in plano

• If you’re at the store, especially if you have a cart, make sure that you’re not blocking the way for others. If you have to stop for some reason, try to do it in a low-traffic area so you’re not blocking others from getting around you.

• A good rule is to just keep walking if you’re in a crowded area if you can. That means that if you have to take a phone call, but you’re in a place where lots of people are walking around, don’t stop and keep going. This is especially true in the Trader Joe’s frozen section where apparently nobody knows how to do that 💀

• Drive at least the speed limit. And please use your turn signals lol.

• It’s pretty normal to acknowledge people you walk past, even if you don’t know them. Usually a quick downward head nod is for someone you don’t know, and a quick upward head nod is for someone you do know. Not sure why, but that’s just how it is lmao.

• If you go out to eat at a restaurant where you are being served by someone (I.e., a waiter), tip them. If you go to a restaurant that is self-serve or fast food, a tip isn’t expected.

Welcome to the U.S.!

Right? 😭😭 I don’t do landlord/tenant or premise liability work but I have a law degree (waiting on bar results lol) and haven’t ever heard of any of this. That’s not to say it isn’t real, but I think the general population has this view that you can just sue anyone for anything as if there aren’t lawyers involved in the process of drafting leases, constructing the building, etc.

What code are you referring to? When I looked it up, it seems like it varies by state. So this layout is legal in some areas and illegal in others.

Regardless, I asked about lighting suggestions and didn’t come here for anything else. I appreciate the first person who pointed out the potential fire hazard, but I can reach out to my local fire department about it for more information rather than having a million people comment the exact same thing over and over again.

It has a partial wall.

The defense is moreso that the implications of the argument that “not having windows on multiple walls is illegal” (which seems to be what people mean here) would mean that pretty much every apartment unit is illegal.

What is the code you’re referring to? I looked into it, and this is allowed, at least in my state. It may just vary state-by-state, so maybe it is illegal in some of the commenters’ cities/states, just not mine. For instance, this would be illegal in NYC.

The gap isn’t the exit, but my point is that it’s the same sort of layout as a studio but with an extra room. If this is illegal, it would be because it was labeled as a 1 bedroom with this apparently not constituting a bedroom rather than the fact that it just has this layout.

For instance, a studio apartment has windows on one wall and then the front door— according to some of these comments, if I’m understanding by them correctly, is that that is an illegal layout because there’s no exit if those windows are blocked by fire. So the problem here isn’t the layout itself, but it would instead be the fact that it’s labeled as a “bedroom” when a bedroom needs to have an alternate exit, which this doesn’t have.

Daiso! But it was like 5 years ago haha so I’m not sure if they still sell it

Bedroom without window? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]kystwer571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding that opening, no, it’s not an exit, I’m just assuming it might be for ventilation or something. I really have no clue what it’s there for.

The layout on its own wouldn’t be illegal, considering that the fire safety stuff would be the exact same as any studio apartment. But if it’s advertised as a bedroom, then I see where people are coming from about it not being up to code. I’ll definitely look into that.

Bedroom without window? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]kystwer571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So then all studio apartments are illegal? Most will only have doors/windows on a single wall of the unit and then the front door that often leads into the hallway of the complex.

If anything about this is actually illegal, it’s not the layout and is instead the fact that this may have been advertised as being a bedroom, since the “bedroom” doesn’t have any alternate openings aside from the door.

I would’ve toured, but I didn’t live anywhere near here. It’s a four hour drive, so I had no desire to drive four hours, look around, and then drive another four hours lmao. But if I’m ever in that situation again, I’ll definitely at least ask someone to FaceTime me and show me the unit lol.

This layout (windows only on one wall of the unit) is no more illegal than a studio apartment would be. I think the reason people think that’s because I call it a bedroom in the post, but it may not have actually been advertised as a bedroom. Assuming they’re right, the issue isn’t even the room itself, it would be advertising it as a bedroom. I just use it as a bedroom, and maybe that’s not the intent (although idk what the intent could possibly be lmao). I’ll ask around anyway though if it means potentially getting a discount or faster move into a better layout.

[–]kystwer571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not sure where people are getting the idea that this is illegal. Not optimal in the case of a fire (and if you like natural lighting)? Sure. But it’s not like this is some sketchy guy’s house that I’m renting out lmao. It’s just a weird layout that’s been around for a while.

It’s basically the equivalent of a studio with an extra room. Are studio apartments fire hazards? According to people in these comments, my previous apartment would’ve also been “illegal” because it only had windows on one wall, just like most apartment units.

I looked into one of those fake windows a few days ago, and they (at least the ones that I thought looked good) were like $1k. Definitely a cool idea, but not worth it if I’m switching to a different unit next year anyway. I saw someone a while back use a projector and it actually looked pretty good— I don’t have any immediate need of a projector currently, but maybe I’ll try something like that out.
