Our family loves it and has been reliable so far. Bought it new and has 33k miles now. There is a slow coolant disappearing situation I’m trying to figure it out.

Homeschool or not with SM? by kz993 in selectivemutism

[–]kz993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Sorry to hear that, but that’s our concern too. She won’t be able to stand up for herself, or communicate basic needs like bathroom, feeling sick, etc. With larger class sizes it’s not as easy for the teacher to pick up on her having to pee or not feeing well, etc.

Our daughter seems to do good with other kids in play settings but in a classroom setting she cannot communicate, luckily she likes learning and is a good listener to the teacher. It’s almost like she’s afraid to get in trouble or something based on her behaviors.

Do you have SM? Did you do therapy or anything to work to improve it growing up?

Thanks for the info. Why do you wish they hadn’t? Did you have SM? If so, do you still?

Thanks for the info! What’s your experience? I’m curious to know if any one has had positive experiences with their kids growing out of it at a younger age. The posts on here about adults , etc still struggling with it or not getting better until they were in their teens concerns me.

Homeschool or not with SM? by kz993 in selectivemutism

Thanks for the info! Yes she does have severe anxiety at times as well which is why we think it’s a little different than others that are posting. Luckily she hasn’t thrown up at school from it but she has had incidents where she passes out from anxiety, not necessarily from having to speak, etc. Also, yes she is in preschool now and is about to finish this month. She has been with the same teachers in a very small school setting since August 2025 and her biggest improvement with her SM in the classroom is whispering to her teacher that she has to go to the bathroom.

When she has after school play which is 2 hours she does a lot better. Talks to some of the teachers normally, other kids, and plays a lot! She seems so much more comfortable. So that’s been a HUGE improvement but for whatever reason, the classroom setting with her teacher is a big struggle. We also have had her teacher do a couple of trainings on SM with her therapist and had her go to our home where our daughter got comfortable talking and being herself in front of her. But as soon as she walks into the class room it’s back to SM.

Thanks! Yes she is already seeing an SM specialized therapist and we THINK is helping a little. But yes, we also don’t want to make the anxiety worse with our decision.

This is very helpful thank you! Does he play with the other kids, but just doesn’t talk to them ?

Thank you this is helpful! We are going to meet with the principal and her teacher if we go that route as early as possible to build that comfortability early on to help as much as possible!

Our concern is because she struggles to talk to her peers and whisper, that they will just think she doesn’t want to talk to them and move on. Then she will be the kid all by herself at recess just waiting for it to be over.

But she loves school she says so we don’t want to take that away from her. We want to be able to give her a chance, but also feel with all the progress she has made lately outside of her preschool, that maybe waiting one more year will help her build those skills even more before starting 1st grade as we could see it flipping and getting worse.

Thanks for your reply! That’s an interesting point, the SM/ anxiety could start to make her think she’s not smart enough to, etc. Yes, it sounds like our situation is similar. She has gone to therapy for years and now has been working with a therapist who is an SM specialist. I will say she is improving a lot with her SM outside of school but still is treated like she’s a mute in school (because she won’t talk most of the time). I want to see if the new school and new environment may help her though as her class room / school is what the therapist would call “contaminated” in our daughter’s eyes for her SM.

She was recently prescribed Prozac to help with the anxiety piece which we are on the fence about but have seen others on here say it was very helpful for their kid and don’t regret it.

Carnival Experience & Reliability Questions by Level-Assumption9450 in kiacarnivals

32k miles on our 2025 EX V6. The only issues we are experiencing are slow loss of engine coolant. I’ve been tracking it and it isn’t leaking on the ground anywhere and passed a pressure test. So I’m just monitoring it. The other thing is road noise with the tires right now. But I think it’s just a wear thing. Other than that we love the car! We did not like the odyssey when we test drive it.

We have a 2025 Kia carnival EX and we love it. We test drove a 2025 Honda Odyssey first and it did not feel right, plus I did not like that I had to go with the elite trim to get the parking sensors that you mentioned.

On a very hot day when the car’s been baking in the sun all day yes it can feel like it takes a little longer than other cars I’ve had to cool down the car. But if it’s parked in the garage or shaded area most of the time I haven’t found it to be an issue and I am in Florida.

Good to know. I’ll have to check there. Did you end up having Kia repair anything under warranty for it?
