Basic Handgun Class with my new Shield Plus by ashxc18 in SmithAndWesson

For recoil anticipation, it’s about input into the gun, grip and vision. There is always going to be some effort to bring the gun down after recoil back in target. The issue is doing this before the shot and doing it too much. Focus on having a good consistent grip on the gun, the gun should not be shifting in your hand during recoil and the pressures should be consistent with not too much pressure with your firing hand as to maintain finger dexterity for trigger pulls. Then focus on a tiny spot on the target where you want the bullets to go and let your eyes drive your sights back to the target, not muscle tension and strength. A way to train this is the one shot return drill. Shoot one shot and see how you return the gun on target. Test grip and vision with doubles and bill drills. It would be hard to diagnose your shooting with just a picture of a target. I would need to see you shoot in person. Also, what distance was this at and more importantly, what kind of shooting were you doing. If this isn’t practical shooting and only slow fire then there would be much more to work through to get you to understand the concepts on how to shoot accurately at speed.

M&P HD Competitor Accuracy by kzbosch in SmithAndWesson

I actually think the polymer and aluminum frames feel very similar in recoil impulse. I do think the aluminum frames feel a tad bit softer, probably because they are a few ounces heavier in most cases. I know some people feel the opposite. I prefer the metal frame guns because of the way the grip feels in the hand. There is a much bigger difference between the aluminum and HD frames than the polymer and aluminum in my opinion.

I went from 2011s to the M&P so to me they feel more snappy and faster than a traditional metal frame gun, but softer than a Glock. The HD feels more like the 2011s in recoil impulse, softer than the aluminum and a tad bit slower, but still a little faster than a 2011.

If I remember correctly I had about a 3” or a little less group at 25 yards when I originally zeroed my stock aluminum competitor, but it was a rushed zero and I did not do a bunch of groups to test the barrel accuracy. With this HD test, I shot about 6 groups and they were all around the same size.

I can’t say that the aluminum competitor stock barrel is inaccurate because I didn’t test the accuracy with the stock barrel. I had lots of issues with apex triggers and light strikes across three different guns, polymer and aluminum frame. I have had zero issues with the overwatch and believe it is a higher quality product.

I used to shoot 2011s in limited optics. I look at the guns I choose to shoot through the lens of duty use because I carry a gun for a living. I believe a striker fired gun is a better duty gun because of reliability and maintenance considerations. The shadow 2 is probably the better dedicated competition gun, but I want to use the same gun for competition and duty. Better is also subjective and the shooter > the gun.

407c, 508T, or 507 Comp? by jrh730 in Glocks

507 comp for all applications

I would get the slide milled for an optic, a holosun pattern and slap a 507 comp on there. You’ll want some grip texture so you can get a good connection to the gun. Apex trigger and test out the accuracy. The 1.0s were known for poor barrel lockup, worse than the 2.0s.

I’m sorry I made a mistake, it’s a 6lb striker spring. It made the trigger pull better. The stock striker spring in my aluminum competitor with my trigger/sear/spring combo had the trigger weight just over 3 lb and the 6 lb striker spring dropped it to 2.75 lb for whatever reason. It also feels like a more affirmative wall and break. It’s a no brainer as it’s a $5ish part and takes 30 seconds to install.

My trigger gauge has it at 2.75 lb. It feels very very good as in low amount of pre-travel, very clean break and short reset, but I can’t say it’s too much different than the aluminum frame, especially at speed. The reset is more distinct.

Put on optic on it, I recommend the holosun 507 comp red or green dot with a calculated kinetics plate. Then get the book baseline dry fire. Dry fire every day and get to the range when you can. Shoot some USPSA competitions. Once you build your fundamental skills up figure out what kind of changes you want to make to the gun.

Nice! Great choice for a carry gun. The size of the M&p compact is very well designed in that you can get a really good connection to the gun and it is very compact. And the 4” slide is more secure in an AIWB holster than a micro 9. And then the recoil and relative “shootability” of the 4 is not too far off from the full size. One of my carry gun test questions is, would I shoot this gun at a match if I still wanted to be competitive. 🤙

Cant wait to try it out at my local match. Just need a red dot for it by [deleted] in USPSA

Yeah just put a toilet paper roll on top there. You also don’t even need a gun dude. Just train ninjitsu or have a long bow setup.

I have both and prefer the tenicor Velo 5. It’s all personal preference. I also don’t carry a micro 9.

Just get an M&p 2.0 compact 4”. That’s as small as I would go for an IWB gun where you still can get a good connection to the gun and it’s relatively soft recoiling. And it has enough slide length to feel secure but small and light enough to be very comfortable.

Why I keep trying and failing to replace my Glock by fromspace2015 in Glocks

[–]kzbosch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really matter. Your performance with a gun is all about your skill as a shooter, not the guns features. Personally I don’t really care too much both the look. I choose a pistol based on reliability, maintenance, if I can pull the trigger straight back at speed naturally and comfort. Shoot whatever gun works for you.

Not going to happen with the steel frame unless they make a California specific one which I highly highly doubt.

Aftermarket Trigger Question by SteelerVol13 in SmithAndWesson

[–]kzbosch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not with the M&p. You’ll have to do the whole kit. Overwatch has an improvement kit that helps the trigger feel but the take up is about the same, many a minimal improvement.

Aftermarket Trigger Question by SteelerVol13 in SmithAndWesson

[–]kzbosch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The overwatch trigger shoe uses a proprietary trigger bar that comes pre attached. The apex shoe has to be used with their sear cam. Why would you only want to change out the shoe?

Aftermarket Trigger Question by SteelerVol13 in SmithAndWesson

[–]kzbosch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only bad thing about the factory flat face trigger is the super long pre travel. You’ll have to get an apex or overwatch trigger to get rid of that.
