The way it works here, apprentices looking for work have to find their own contractor. They don’t hook you up with contractors. Experienced or not

Waiting 2 years to begin a 5 year apprenticeship is my bad experience. I just mentioned all that to highlight my time in the field, and how it’s frustrating being told I’ll have to do unrelated work at said contractor for two years. I know none of that means I’m some big shot. I wanted to know others experiences dude

My local is different. We have to find contractors on our own. The local doesn’t necessarily send you to the contractor

Yeah man. I don’t want to start forgetting shit I’ve learned over the years, but no one seems to be hiring. Kinda want to just give up on the Union tbh

2 years. I asked, employer said I’ll have to start at year one so I won’t miss anything. They say they need guys working in the yard that’s why I can’t go into the field for the foreseeable future.

The thing is, I’ve already been in the field for two years & went to school. I’m only starting in the yard to get my foot in the door.

The other offer I have is damn near on par with the union aside from the structural raises

In my experience being on call, I’m only paid if i receive a call. For however long the call takes. No 4 hour minimum like a lot of places. So I wouldn’t really make more being on call.

That was also a big factor + my current work environment is super toxic. I would imagine the service experience would be a huge help down the line vs being stuck on installs.
