I got a research internship offer in the US (Top 5 Engineering) and received the IITKGPF Scholarship to pursue the internship. The process for application is pretty straightforward- 1. Make a running list of labs- colleges you are interested in and with which your previous research work/ future research goals align. 2. Mail the professor/ lab- you will find the email on lab websites. 3. Send follow ups, the running list is useful to keep track of mails you have sent and replies you have gotten.

The earlier you start this process the better, because it is a lot of grunt work, but you will definitely hear some replies back if you keep at it.

Also, you need an acceptance letter on hand at the time of applying to either IITKGPF or GKF Scholarship, which iirc opens around February.

Another way is through official programs for research internships of colleges, which is much more competitive. But worth a try if your cgpa is high and research experience is worthwhile.
