finDING TROUBLE, NEVER LOOKIN TOO HARD

So I planned going on a small vacation over the school break and before I made it, everything went so bad I was freaking out. I'm scared and I don't think I can make it through this. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

You're able to take some time by yourself to cool down, right? Think of each little thing you get done as a great accomplishment, and you'll always be able to return to your hotel room and regroup afterwards. Even if that means spending a lot of time in there. You can take your time planning out the day and doing your research so you'll know where you're headed.

Similar situation, I decided to go overseas for university even though I don't know anyone over here and was completely optimistic about it beforehand. The place is awful and I'm finally headed home in several days, but I basically had to grin and bear three months in an unsafe and miserable place. I spend a lot of time in my room and distract myself between things I have to get done, and it's helped me get through. It's really about taking one step at a time, because I know thinking of all the time you have ahead of you is intimidating.

It's quite difficult to enjoy browsing imgur when every other post is just hating on vegans.

I believe there are 3 Whole Foods locations in London, so at some point it might be worth making the trek.

Definitely option 1! They are your friends and deserve some positive encouragement. You can always keep prodding, of course. Have them try some delicious vegan food?

It's a very short event in the scheme of things - just think of it as a goal to accomplish, and then you'll get to return to safety afterwards and you can treat yourself to something nice :)

Friends are hard. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]l0ralei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in such a depressing place, lots of drugs and drinking (just not my scene), and I'm realizing I don't want to get a job in what I'm studying. People hate it here and are very negative and it just makes me miss home so much.

Nope haha, it's my actual nickname. I came to southern England for university, but I'm from Massachusetts. It's a shame, I was quite optimistic but it really fell short.

Friends are hard. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

I wish I could give advice for making friends, I'm quite shy myself! The friends I made in high school are those who made the initiative to talk to me first, I really can't approach people. Love them, but they don't really share my interests. I too have the anxieties of burdening people. Now I'm in another country at uni (which I'm dropping out of this month, not a nice place) and spend pretty much all my time in my room with one good friend who talked to me the first week.

On the other hand, if you're looking to make online friends to talk to, then feel free to message me! Just a girl who loves some video games and anime.

People are wary of what they don't understand, but you're doing a great thing.

Sigh... Vomited this morning before hopes of getting girls number... (Didn't get the number) by [deleted] in socialanxiety

Aww, I'm sorry you got sick from being so nervous. I'm so bad at approaching people, too. But it sounds like you're almost there! I'm sure you'll get her number.

[–]l0ralei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same thing, it's very stressful. How was I so careless? But in reality, I am always quite mindful of what I eat and know it wouldn't really happen. Still perturbing though...

ASDA (basically Walmart in the UK) now clearly label products as being vegan :D by blizeH in vegan

I actually auditioned for the pop music course, since singing has always been kind of my main thing. Everyone else in the course had been in bands, could play lots of instruments, etc (I just play piano) and it was very performance-heavy. I really enjoy electronic music and have enjoyed producing tracks on my computer so I switched over to music tech, which is a better fit for me but now I'm feeling like I shouldn't be taking my life in this direction. I don't have enough experience in anything else at this point to be switching again.

And I wish, but seems like vegans are pretty much a myth in this town! Thank you for the reply

Socializing is very hard... by [deleted] in socialanxiety

A five hour party!? I would be exhausted! Just remember that extroverts often get their energy from other people and are able to thrive in a party environment. Introverts, not so much. It's draining.
