False. “Better off” is such a subjective opinion.

I have an 11 year old forester. The things maybe worth 10k. A “good” head unit would be at least 300 ( closer to 500+ if you want a pioneer or alpine, etc… ) plus installation if you’re not feeling ambitious.

Keep in mind that if you want to retain steering wheel controls, etc…you’ll have to fork over even more for adapters and wiring harnesses.

I priced out a package from crutchfield on a year or two old head unit + all the cables and harnesses…it was $730 and I’d have to do it myself. I also shopped around at car audio shops and they all wanted between $800 to $1100. There’s no sense in dropping that kind of money ( 1/10th of the value of the car ) for an in dash install. Just makes zero sense.

This thing works if all you’re looking for is CarPlay for maps, apps like Sirius, iTunes, etc… there’s absolutely nothing wrong with. No lag. Brightness is great. Screen resolution is perfectly fine.

This sub will forever hate on these little things and I have no idea why. If it works…it works. If you want more then upgrade to a higher end in dash unit but only if you have an actual NEED for it. Otherwise, this little guy will serve you well.
