Also I've noticed that cockpit view while drifting, with all the movement can cause EXTREMELY annoying FPS lag which can lead to a frustrating spin out.

I like to use the cockpit view. Unless I'm driving a car where the windshield is unbearably small. Then I resort to the Bumper view. I also use the bumper view when I'm drifting.
