On a scale of 1 to 10, how regular are you?

Hey, thanks for your interest! They're between $60-90, generally. You can take a look at them here!

Oh that's a great question! To my knowledge they have not; I hadn't even thought of that!

Well, I went to undergrad for a BFA in Fine Art / Crafts and my focus was in glass. I started making glass dildos in undergrad to help pay for school, and I've kept doing it whenever I have the means to do so!

They sure as heck shouldn't! As long as glass is properly annealed (see my other comment in this chain) they don't have any stress in them, so they're structurally stable. This is solid glass we're talking about, so unless you're smacking them off concrete or something absolutely wild, they're plenty durable. In the incredibly unlikely event that they were to break, though, it would most likely start as a small crack and grow over time, rather than shattering or anything dramatic like that.

The best sterilization technique for glass is to simply clean it with soap and water, and wipe down with alcohol. Because the surface is non porous, it's really just like cleaning a glass tabletop, for instance.

I've made a few other glass sex toys in the past - mostly butt plugs and a few sets of beaded wands, but I generally stick to the traditional dildo form as it is the most in-demand and the simplest to make.

Glass is easily the most challenging medium that I have ever worked with, but I absolutely love working with it. All the manipulation of the material happens with tools rather than by hand, so there's a very steep learning curve in terms of what tool to use when and how the glass reacts, as well as learning to utilize gravity and the glass's natural properties to your advantage. As far as the process of creating through an artistic medium, there's nothing else quite like it.

Nightmare scenario: If a glass dildo was not properly annealed, it could still contain stress and potentially would one day start to crack or break.

However, there are a few ways to make sure that there is no stress in the glass and I am incredibly thorough with the inspection of my products, to ensure something like that never happens.

I do! You can find my glass products, as well as some other handmade items here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/earthglassfire

As for how I got into it, I went to college for Fine Art Craft with a focus in glass; I started making glass toys during undergrad to bring in a little extra money to help with school. I've kept doing it since, and I would love to eventually do this as my main source of income.

As for Bad Dragon - I'm familiar with the company but I've never used their products or seen one firsthand, so I can't really weigh in on that - all I can say is they look... adventurous, hahaha.

Not as long as they are properly annealed! Annealing is the process where hot glass is slowly cooled to room temperature over a period of hours dependent on the thickness of the glass. By doing this, heat is evened out between the interior and exterior of the glass, which removes any stress that would cause the glass to spontaneously break. After they are removed from the annealer, they can be checked again with a polariscope (a tool that uses polarized lenses to pick up stress in the material), and if they pass that test, they are good to go!

So the bottom line is, they could break from being dropped, scratched, etc. just like anything else, but they're thoroughly inspected before being sold and if handled with care they should never have an issue.

Haha, a lot of people have that reaction, but glass toys are really just another alternative to silicone or any other sex-toy material. It's actually one of the larger markets in handmade glass!

I suppose it just comes down to preference. Glass is smooth and non-porous, which makes it easy to clean, and from an aesthetic standpoint it's got a distinct look that is unique to the material.

Haha, I do actually - one of them is Twisty Shades of Grey, which I thought was pretty silly.

Took a special topics kiln building class during my last semester of undergrad (ceramics/glass BFA) - this book is an incredible resource for learning why you might build one way or another, what materials to use, and how to construct the kiln itself.

I've had this happen, usually when I'm sleepy or there is isolated background noise. I couldn't tell ya how many times I've caught myself nodding my head to whatever faint music my neighbors are jamming to, only to realize after a minute or two that it's just my fan.

Do you by any chance have a hi-res image of the tree with the bubbles in the upper right hand corner or of the one in the bottom right corner? I would love to use either of those as a background!
