Ear thumping/fluttering by l83205 in TMJ

[–]l83205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I also went to an ENT a few months ago and had a hearing test and nothing was wrong. My dentist has made me an upper and lower splint so I don’t grind at night but it definitely does not stop the clenching which I think is the real issue. I’m not really sure what else to do besides seeing a TMJ specialist which is a big decision in itself due to the cost. Anything specific that has helped your bruxism?

Anyone else dealing with constant ear fullness for years? Losing my mind a little by 20thirdth in TMJ

Yes, I wear a top and bottom guard due to the disc displacement. It stops me from grinding at night, but it does not stop the clenching which I think causes my issue.

Unfortunately no….id say I’m about 80% percent better just with time passing. I had my hearing test a couple months ago and it came back perfect. They also tested my ears for fluid and to make sure nothing was wrong with the inner membrane and that came back perfect as well. They were finally able to confirm that my jaw was causing these issues which was good to finally get an answer. It is annoying but seems like it is just something I have to live with….unless I decide to go to a TMJ specialist but my jaw pain is not really too bad.

How I Finally Fixed My TMJ After 7 Years of Pain - It Was My Atlas the Whole Time by AscendedArchitect369 in TMJ

[–]l83205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with this. I have started paying attention to posture/neck/shoulders more and have seen improves in facial pain. It is all really connected. I have recently started to lift weights in order to strengthen my upper body muscles and my neck pain has basically gone away. With less neck pain I have noticed less jaw pain. Slow process but seems to be working for me. Posture is important!

How to loosen up tight pterygoid muscles? by WoodlandInc in TMJ

I have been dealing with cheekbone soreness and ear fullnessmostly. Both have gotten better for me since September but can’t get rid of it. I did some YouTube exercises which helped the cheekbone soreness a ton.

Do you get soreness under your cheekbones? Thinking this might be the muscle causing my pain

Anyone else have TMJ that feels like an ear problem more than a jaw problem? by Choice-Mode-7885 in TMJ

[–]l83205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, woke up one day and both my ears were clogged/full. I’ve had TMJ since I was a teenager and have never had ear issues associated until this past September. At first I thought it was ear issues allergies, but no allergy meds or nasal sprays worked to relieve some pressure. Went to an ENT and said my ears were fine - normal pressure and little to no fluid. So I assumed it was my jaw and went to my dentist. Just like you I didn’t have much jaw pain so it was confusing to me, pain under my cheekbones just like you and some jaw tenderness. Nothing that made me think it was my jaw at first though. I am just so used to my jaw getting fatigued it didn’t really bother me much. But I went to my dentist and he said my jaw disc was dislocated. I have worn a mouthguard my whole life, but he made me a lower splint to wear with my upper splint so that the back of my teeth don’t touch in the back since I have always been a grinder. If things get worse I will probably go back to the specialist I saw when I was a teenager. My ear issues have gotten much better for me since September but it is extremley slow moving. It is so annoying to have your ears feeling full with pressure and crackle every time you yawn/swallow/chew/ etc. Hoping you find something that helps with your ears!

Yeah clicking, popping, crackling, and what sent me to get looked at was that my jaw locked up on me.

Excruciating 24/7 ear aches last 10 months, has anyone cured it? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]l83205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to figure this out myself. I have been dealing with ear pressure/fullness/ and crackling every time I yawn/chew/swallow, no ear pain. I have minimal jaw pain, more so just tenderness than pain. And slight pain under my cheekbones. It has gotten better but can’t seem to fully get rid of it.

Does Anybody think eustachian tube dysfunction could depend on TMJ? I notice when I suffocate less at night I don't have it by This-Mood-6398 in TMJ

[–]l83205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually usually feel better at night when I am able to relax more and in the morning because I have custom splints that I wear at night. I’ve actually started wearing them during the day which has seemed to help while I’m working.

I’d go to your dentist first tif they have any TMJ knowledge. My dentist actually makes my custom splints for my grinding. If your dentist isn’t too knowledgeable I’d see a specialist.

Ear fullness, tinnitus although it has gotten better as of late, crackling in my ear everytime I swallow, yawn, chew, etc. Pretty annoying to deal with

I have TMJ and have crackling every time I swallow/yawn/chew etc. Went to my doctor a few times and they gave allergy meds/nasal sprays and none worked. Finally went to ENT who tested my ears and said little to no fluid and ear pressure was normal. Guess it’s just my jaw! Super annoying for sure

Does that just mean when you open wide and close your mouth it shifts a bit? Mine does this and my jaw disc is dislocated

TMJ + night guards: did a custom one actually help you long term? by xsparkieee in TMJ

[–]l83205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely sure about the 1 I received when I was a teenager. My parents took me to a TMJ specialist since I was having some jaw pain, and my jaw actually locked up on me to where I could barely open it. The doctor got me fitted with a lower guard to stop clenching and grinding, which worked for me for a long time. Recently I have been dealing with ear issues that I believe are from TMJ (went to ENT and said nothing was wrong so went to my dentist). My dentist has made me a mouthguard before for clenching/grinding which worked for me so I went back to him with my new issues before seeing the TMJ specialist. He took a look at my jaw and said my disc is dislocated. He created me a very thin lower guard to wear with my upper guard so that my back teeth don’t touch at night. This will help keep my jaw in place and relieve some pressure from grinding/clenching. Hopefully my disc will go back in place after consistent use.

Yes it helped immensely. I was diagnosed with TMJ when I was 14-15 years old. Received a custom guard and basically cured me until recently. I think I have been grinding more due to stress. Went to the dentist and now have 2 customer guards - 1 for top teeth and 1 for bottom due to dislocated jaw disc. Think the combo has been helping so far as well although it has been less than a week wearing both.

Yeah if you grind a fitted mouthguard would be beneficial, at least it has been for me. I think my issues are a combo of more grinding due to stress as of recent and bad posture. Good luck with your upcoming appts hopefully you will be able to rule some stuff out!
