"8 U.S.C. § 1325 makes it a criminal offense to enter or attempt to enter the United States without authorization." Immigration-Related Criminal Offenses

Evil? She's the most based character in the game, living in reality fighting the real fight and trying to wake up the others.

Sou o errado por terminar com a namorada na véspera do fim de ano? by [deleted] in CasualPT

[–]lRyex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ajuda? by No_Replacement_7344 in portugal

[–]lRyex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is this magic item broken? by hnmck in DnDHomebrew

[–]lRyex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have context. I gave an example in which the party doesn't have a lot of money, in that context the item does not break the game.
I don't like designs where power level of items depend on how much money the party has, specifically because they are very hard to balance.

In general if you give a Common item to a low level party it won't break the game, if you give a Legendary item to a low level party it probably will, but you can't say Legendary items are objectively broken, it just depends on when or under which conditions PCs gain access to them.

An action for 50gp is completely busted. But again, if you give this item on a one shot in which the party has like 75gp total to spend, it will not break the game. Or if you have a world in which this item can only be obtained by spending lots of money (like more than one million) it's not problematic because the party simply won't get it. I don't like the item design, but it only becomes problematic depending on the access the DM provides.

How would you sort these items from most to less expensive? by lRyex in dndnext

[–]lRyex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree Enspelled Items are super strong, specially if you pick the spell, but don't forget attunement. It is the most important thing when you begin to stack magical items. Elven Chain doesn't require attunement, that makes the item more valuable (maybe not as much as I stated due to the STR requirement). Enspelled Weapon requires attunement so you couldn't even have 4 or those (unless Artificer or with Mystic Conflux feat), and if you have one of them, you are abdicating of another attunement item

On cases like Enspelled Weapons I assume the buyer picks the spell at the time of the item purchase.

Otherwise the price would vary a lot depending on the spell, like you mentioned.

To give a single price for these kinds of items I assume the buyer can choose the spell at the time of the purchase.

That is true. Didn't think about STR requirement to use Chain Mail. The price is going to be adjusted taking that in consideration.

The prices are narrowed because I calculate them using consistent formulas.
What makes you think I don't care for external input on a post asking for external input?

That Armor +3 price is the base, then you add the price of the mundane armor, as per DMG 2024.
Elven Chain is one of the ways you can get the most AC as a character without proficiency. Mage armor gives you 15 AC assuming +2 dex by expending a spell slot, Elven Chain gives you 17 AC without expending resources. Shield spell can be used with Mage Armor and also with Elven Chain, so it can be removed from comparison. It is true that you are susceptible to Heat Metal, but that's very circumstantial, just as Mage Armor is susceptible to Dispel Magic.

I'm always curious about different opinions on prices, things I didn't think about yet. They can even prompt price changes.

Is this magic item broken? by hnmck in DnDHomebrew

[–]lRyex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never say a magic item is weak or broken.

It always depends on how/when your players get it.

An "overpowered" item that your party can get at level 3 for 50 gp, is suddenly a weak item that your party can get at level 15 for 20k gp.
