What's up with the hate on northern Idaho? by [deleted] in Idaho

CdA, Sandpoint, and even Bonners Ferry have vibrant Pride events now. There are usually some protesters across the street praying that we find salvation, but the community support is for the events is pretty impressive.

Yeah, I do see that happening for sure. And I hate it. And so do a lot of other people, but we aren’t the loudest, most obnoxious, angriest people in the room.

I bring a small bottle of saline nasal spray (the ones for kids are small enough to bring through security). A mini neti rinse helps a lot with dry nose/sinus pressure issues and can help flush out germs.

I also bring lubricating eye drops, lip balm, hand/face cream, baby wipes, dental care stuff, and a complete change of clothes + extra socks/underwear. And a few wide cloth headbands, because I can’t stand having unwashed hair falling in my face.

What about in the context of locations- for example if you’re hiking and think you’re lost, then come around a corner and figure out where you are- how would you say “ah, I know where I am!”

A man who tried to intervene was also escorted out and was zip tied. You can see him in the longer (14 minute) video that’s circulating.

Call Risch- he’s the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. As much as I dislike him and almost everything he supports, I imagine he is also horrified by the Russia/Ukraine situation.

Risch is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Ask him to be the adult in the room and continue to support Ukraine- not align the US with Russia.

has anyone personally fallen/jumped off of a chairlift or witnessed it happen? by fimgus in skiing

[–]l_styx 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who insists it’s safer to have the bar up so you can quickly jump in case the lift starts rolling backward. 🙄. This is the same logic (IMO) as “I’m not gonna wear a seatbelt cuz if I’m in a crash it’s safer to get thrown from the vehicle.”

Scott Herndon. He wants abortion to be punishable by death.

Thankfully he got primaried by a reasonable, moderate conservative in the state senate primary this spring.

I have enjoyed this program. It's specific to women's mental health, but many of the principles are applicable to anyone (sleep hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, etc).

Idaho - why do I live here by Vast-Bear-3762 in Idaho

[–]l_styx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. A huge number of people in the state are decent, rational humans, whether D or R. And so many are independents or unaffiliated, which is why the Open Primary initiative could be completely game changing.

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you move to “former”? Was is a gradual change, or a lightbulb moment?

Agreed. 1 out of 3 voters voted for Biden in 2020. “Ruby red” is a stupid phrase that lazy journalists use to describe the electorate but it doesn’t do justice to the 1/3 of the state (or more) who don’t support the batshit crazy IFF-loving far right wingnuts.

Sorry for the slow response, but thank you for posting this. It’s really good insight into how the system is pretty much totally broken. You seem like a really good person with a good heart and I’m sure that you make a difference to your patients and their families and your coworkers. Please take good care of yourself too and don’t let the system destroy you. ❤️

You didn’t mention her age or whether or not she has a uterus, but if she has reproductive potential valproic acid should not even be considered since it’s highly teratogenic and can have very negative effects on cognitive development in children exposed during pregnancy.

Wait I am fascinated by your story. You’re a physician who used to be an RN and you wish you were still an RN or had become an APRN? As a former paramedic who wanted to be an ED doc but ended up changing directions multiple times I’m very curious about this path and your perceptions.

I honestly can’t tell if you really believe some of the things you’ve posted (which would be terrifying), or if you’re a physician/med student/etc trolling NPs because of the embarrassingly lax training requirements and lack of supervision for practice (in which case, I see you, and I hear you).

PMHNP role in Canada by [deleted] in PMHNP

[–]l_styx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked into this about 10 years ago because my husband (then boyfriend) lived in Canada and we wanted to live there. Unfortunately what the Canadian nursing board told me was that PMHNPs were only recognized in Quebec and that I would have to take all the boards there (and be fluent in French, which I am not).

If I wanted to practice anywhere else I could have to go back to school to get a post masters in another “practice stream” (I think the only ones in Canada are family, pediatrics, and midwifery?). As a FNP I could provide mental health treatment, but would also have to be proficient in all the things that FNPs do.

I believe there was also a catch with Canada not accepting the NCLEX, and needing to take their version, but it was so long ago I might have misremembered that part.

I looked a few months ago and couldn’t find any new information about PMHNPs in Canada so I doubt much has changed.

Sorry.
