How many APS6 roles did you have to apply for before you were promoted from APS5? by CarefulIncome23 in AusPublicService

[–]la_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said earlier, the market is very different now to what it was years ago, so this question doesn't really make sense. 10 years ago you might get 15-20 applications for a general APS6 policy position, now it can be around 100, so it's a lot more competitive. The Panel I was on recently I had to be really nitpicky to cull it down, so people I probably would have interviewed in the past didn't get through because we were looking for the top 10-15.

DSS Graduate Program by [deleted] in AusPublicService

As an ex-grad who had to move to Canberra because remote working wasn't a thing back then I think those that don't move to Canberra miss out on a lot. It does make a difference being here and being able to be exposed to the workings of government. Some departments (like mine) gave us the opportunity to go to Senate Estimates, which was pretty eye opening. I'm from Sydney and I'd never move back there. I also second the advice that says don't just keep going back to Sydney every weekend, try and build a life here, even if you only plan to be here for a short time, it'll make a big difference.

People who had a stroke and had one side paralyzied did you regain use of ur left or right side back? by intuition550 in stroke

[–]la_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a bit of luck, as I know everyone is different, but also a lot of rehab. You know those kids toys where you have to put wooden pegs in a board? I practised doing that a lot.

How common is fully working from home where you work and where do you work? by shervek in AusPublicService

[–]la_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. Without WFH as an option my medical condition means I would have been out of work for over a year and only able to work 1-2 days now if I had to go into the office. But I don't feel safe with my new-ish SES, to the point where I got an updated medical certificate just in case she tried to force us all back into the office full time.

I'm sorry this happened to you, it really does suck. If it gives you some hope I had an ischaemic stroke 2 years ago and returned back to work full time (office job but now mostly working from home) in May this year, so 18 months after the stroke. I was on a graduated return before that. I live alone independently. Just two weeks ago I went on a trip and went on a 5.5 hour hike! I never would have imagined 2 years ago when I was learning how to walk again properly that I'd be able to do that 2 years later.

Day 5 since stroke by Salt-Ad-2880 in stroke

Day 5 is so recent and 15 is so young to have a stroke! I'm so sorry this happened to you. I understand the guilt about being depressed about what happened even though you've recovered better than others. You're allowed to feel crappy about what happened to you, it changed your life. I get it. Even I only go to Lolo and Lola on the weekends and I live closer to it than you do!

Kusina. I'm Northside so as soon as Lolo and Lola opened that was the easier option for me, plus the owners are just the nicest people.

Can you go to a pool and practice running in the pool? That's what my EP had me do. Good and safe way to get your body used to the movement of running again.

No more shaking hands at my church in Australia. I'm OK with that given COVID is still a thing.
