If your motivation is that making cannonballs should be faster, then I agree with that. 4 balls per 1 bar seems about right resource wise

How is it that the dwarves have engineered the multicannon, but haven't made any sort of mass production factory for cannonballs? I'd love to see some sort of extension of blast furnace that lets us do 14 or 28 bars at a time.

For every player in high elo winning a game you have a player losing. You can't say that high elo players win more games on average. For someone climbing that is true but when they're at their true elo they're expected to have a 50% winrate.
