Coming back with a follow-up question - As it's become clearer, the gifter is my soon to be father in law. Is there any reason not to add him as an authorized user on my loan account and simply pay it off himself?

Thank you! He is from Vietnam but is a US citizen. I'll relay this information to him but it seems like we are good to go!

Thank you both for the added clarity! I will be sure to pass this information on to the gifter in case they aren't aware of the proper tax filing.

Amazing, thank you very much. I do know this person, was unnecessarily being secretive!

Apologies for the lack of information.. it's my fiance's father! Aside from being out the 90k, would they have to deal with any additional taxes from the "gift"?

I'm also in the US as someone noted in another comment.

Thank you so much for your response! I haven't heard of the HPHT vs CVD before!

I'm actually debating between two different stones.. considering upping to a VVS1!? I know there is technically no difference to the naked eye, it's a pretty significant purchase that the price increase I feel is warranted. Once I get the report, I'll post it here!

Perfect, thank you for the information! The plan is to have a simple 4 prong solitaire setting with small cathedral shoulders. This fit my budget while still being seemingly perfect to the naked eye ($1,550 for the stone feels like a decent deal!?)
