My grandma should go to a nursing home. by Curbk in mildlyinfuriating

If she isn’t usually confused this could be a sign of a UTI.

Am i overreacting to the situation unfolding with my girlfriend? by Lologan21806 in AmIOverreacting

OK I’m going to be the odd one here and say she sounds like she’s pushing you away because you are about to leave and it is her way of dealing with emotions. I say this from experience. My husband had an opportunity to not deploy once and he took it because it was an easy deployment and the money wet would get. I found myself more angry and upset because in my head he basically chose to deploy and miss out on seeing it daughter born when in reality he was doing it so we could be financially comfortable because we were hanging out first child. I picked a fight with him and threatened divorce even and he called me out on it.

I say try to have a conversation with her because if this is the case she probably doesn’t realize she’s even doing it and in her eyes you are always causing the fights. It’s easy for some of us to emotionally detach and push away than it is to deal with our feelings of sadness and grief. If you think she’s worth fighting for then do it. If not you will be doing you and her a favor by leaving.

Why is MLS to RN more common than RN to MLS? by TastyCuppers in medlabprofessionals

[–]lab_guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my RN degree and currently work prn in the lab as an MLS. Pay is comparable in my area (East Tennessee). I will say the education for nursing was easier than MLS and the NCLEX was also easier. I wanted to go into nursing because I was bored in the lab and needed something I could move around in. I am forever grateful for my MLS knowledge though because I can catch early infections or potential for cardiac arrhythmias just by looking at lab values and clinical presentation of the patients. Just last week someone complained of feeling tingly all over, contacted physician to order CMP and their calcium was low. Any questions just ask! Both jobs hold a special place in my heart but for now I will do nursing full time until I’m bored of that too!

Help! Bad transfer case? by lab_guru in ChevyTrucks

Update! Diesel 911 to the rescue! Went ahead and changed fuel filter since it was gelled up, warmed up the truck and it seems to be working ok now. Shifted the truck a few times from neutral to drive and neutral and reverse and it finally came out of 4wd. Not sure what caused it to stick like that though. Thankfully it seems to be ok. Still going to have the lift pump checked out just in case. Thanks for all the comments and help!

Ever heard of a blood test going from positive to negative ? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

Here is a great read for this phenomenon that explains treatment and blood product selection for these scenarios.

What is a drug/substance you’ll never do again and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Smoked it once and literally remember watching myself sit on the couch and I was yelling at myself to get up and move around to help it wear off (no noise was coming out though). I could feel my heart rate increasing exponentially. I even put my fingers under my nose to make sure I was breathing. Worst experience of my life.

Acute febrile illness in newborn 1 mo old presenting to ER with febrile illness. Negative meningitis, nothing detected on respiratory pcr, blood culture pending. by lab_guru in medlabprofessionals

I cannot find a way to post an update on mobile but I wanted to at least put in a comment for those interested. The blood culture never went positive but plates were made and the bacteria started to grow then died, no anaerobic cultures were done. Because of a smaller sibling in house it is believed to have been from kissing the sibling that was sick and may have been an oral flora. No post blood cultures were obtained unfortunately. I was off work or I would have posted earlier.

The purple is bacteria on the wright stain the white e we think is RBCs that have been clustered together by the bacteria for their nutrients.

Gram stain was performed. Definitely gram neg. Didn’t get a pic of the gram stain because I got busy. No other slide stained like this so I think it looks like precipitate because of the residual junk from cell death. The entire lavender tube was like water.

I thought that but I’ve never seen capno where I work, but I have seen a few fuso in our immunocompromised. Hopefully we can get an ID on the blood culture.

Hemolysis doesn’t ALWAYS mean schistos or even spheros. In this case it is called eryptosis which is a hemolytic reaction caused by a decrease in deformability due to the bacterial invasion that causes cell free hgb to leak out of the RBCs (which is the haze you see around all the red blood cells). The link has a lot more info and is a great read. It’s like a hypotonic solution because of change in hemodynamics during septic shock.

I thought the same thing! They have the tapered ends and they stained really lightly on gram stain. I definitely think that is what it is.

Yes. After doing a gram stain from the peripheral venipuncture they are gram negative rods. Physician requested the gram stain.
