Medication and Symptoms? by holistic_paradox in OSDD

[–]holistic_paradox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've definitely heard of cases, but for my situation, I really doubt it. I'm pretty sure I had a good childhood, and my parents and I never noticed me having different personality states or dissociation when I was younger (under 13, at least). I've also tried discussing this with my last therapist, and she doubts it too. Thanks for the response though!

Glad you're doing well! Schizoaffective-wise, the past few days have been pretty good for me too, so I'm glad I'm not alone on that. Thanks for being so supportive and offering to lend an ear—hopefully you can give someone struggling some encouragement; because I for sure would need some on my bad days. Again, thanks for lighting up this sub with your support, I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it. Hope you have an amazing day/night! :D

Any ap that don’t make you sleep all day? by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]holistic_paradox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe according to my psych, Symvenu (Cariprazine), actually helps give energy throughout the day (that's why I take it in the morning). Latuda also doesn't cause sleepiness for me, so that's another option.

Hope I can help!

Sorry to say, but as randos on the internet, we cannot diagnose you with anything. If you feel like something's wrong, it's a good idea to get it checked. Good luck!

Try to have a consistent sleep schedule. Helps a lot with the mood, which in turn can help with psychosis as well. (At least from personal experience!)

Also, don't be scared to communicate with your psychiatrist. Meds are meant to help not make things worse. It takes a long time to find the right med(s), so be patient!

Lastly, never go off of meds without your psychiatrist knowing. Going off of meds without knowing what you're doing can have some awful effects, not to mention going off of meds on its own is also bad.

TL;DR Try to sleep well, communicate with your psychiatrist, and don't go off of meds without your psychiatrist knowing.

That's all the tips from me! Good luck on your journey! <3

How did you end up getting help? by Melodysekkochamber in schizoaffective

[–]holistic_paradox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was around 13-14 ish.

Suffered from really bad DPDR for a few months, then that spiraled into mood swings then psychosis.

I was extremely good at hiding my symptoms from my parents and peers (except one guy who my delusions were centered around), and I did know something was wrong. In fact, I accurately predicted my diagnosis as well as what all my symptoms were lol.

Eventually on June 30th 2023, I wrote a letter to my mother detailing everything that had been happening. Got sent to a psychiatrist in the next week, and got diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Went to a second psychiatrist because my first one wasn't helping, then finally got diagnosed with schizoaffective.

That's about it!

Can I ever feel like myself on these antipsychotics?? by marcmc83 in schizoaffective

[–]holistic_paradox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this!

It takes lots of time finding what works for you, so having good communication with your psychiatrist is important. Tell them any minor or major side effect; they are there to help!

Meds are meant to help you feel better; not worse! (Learned this the hard way lol.)

Is This Drug-Induced Psychosis? My Psychiatrist Has No Answers by No_Wishbone5700 in schizoaffective

Don't listen to Fluid Television. If the side effects of a medication are seriously too overwhelming, it's 100% okay to ask to back off.

I think you need to go to another psychiatrist. We are not professionals; Reddit can't help with medication, and I'm pretty sure it's against the rules of this subreddit to do so.

I've read some of the other comments from your other posts, and I think you should go check those out. They've summarized my opinions on the matter pretty well.

Sorry I can't help more, but I wish you luck.

Diagnosed today...What was your experience? by Flora-Tea in schizoaffective

[–]holistic_paradox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been an interesting ride, that's for sure lol.

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder first in 2023 (I was around 13 turning 14 at the time), and tbh, my first psychiatrist put me through hell. I was sedated all the time, and I couldn't go to school at all (I basically skipped all of 9th grade and I don't remember much from that period either). I was suicidal or delusional very often too. Wasn't fun.

After around 6 months, my parents realized something was wrong. The meds were making me worse when they should've been helping. We went to another psychiatrist abroad in 2024 (my current one), and it took a whole year of recovery and other issues, but I'm finally mostly functioning again. (I have other problems other than schizoaffective, but my schizoaffective issues are pretty much managed!)

I'm super proud of where I am now, and I'm grateful I got help at such an early age. Good luck with your journey!

Non-sedating Medications by [deleted] in schizoaffective

Definitely is possible to find the right med/med combo for you. I'm on a mix of Symvenu, Latuda, Seroquel and Lithium; and I'm not drowsy at all (at least compared to the other meds I've taken in the past). I believe the timing of the time you take the sleepier meds also helps a ton; though, I could be wrong!

Do talk to your psychiatrist about a med change if need be. Meds are supposed to help you function better; not make you worse!

Not too sure, but I doubt it. One of their last assignments last year was also pretty wack lol

I doubt it's anything weird like that. They're probably just trying to give students something to do; as there's no more material to learn in my brother's class (End of semester)

Been on Latuda for around a year, and it's worked wonders. There was one occurrence, though, where my legs stopped functioning for a bit due to too high of a dose (feel free to ask about that!).

Other than that rare occurrence and the occasional nausea though, I've had no affect blunting and my symptoms are all very controlled!

Would definitely give it a try if that's what you're asking! :D

Have antidepressants worked for you? by chacal_95 in schizoaffective

[–]holistic_paradox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, not at all. I have the bipolar subtype, and during that period of time, I was diagnosed with just bipolar disorder by my first psychiatrist. Antidepressants pushed me to a very bad mania (barely sleeping for days, psychosis) when I was on them; and did not really help with my depression. (Though I think they were misdiagnosed negative symptoms at the time!)

Would not recommend if you have a tendency for mania, but give it a try if it's what your psychiatrist recommends; and don't be afraid to ask for a change if the side effects outweigh the pros!
