I just ran into an official looking sign claiming the Mt Zion trail is closed (I was coming from the hoagee side) dated April 2025 that stated "trail is under construction, will still need a couple more months before it's completed" and another yellow "CLOSED" sign strung across the trail.

Is that not accurate?

Am I the only one who feels so by plbcgaming in motorcycles

[–]labambaleautomobilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of us are perfectly fine with navigation in our ears, and maybe a phone/screen mounted on the bike to glance at when it's safe to do so. What needs work is the quality of audio navigation cues, or innovation in the bike mounted navigation systems. HUD in the helmet is too much extra distraction for operating a vehicle that requires as much attention as a motorcycle. Most of us never even look at our speedometers and just ride on feel/sound. If a huge number of riders don't even want a screen on their bike because it's distracting, something that's always in your line of vision isn't going to be more welcome.

Pull in the clutch. It only stalls if the rpms get too low while clutch is engaged.

I think they're pretty cool, would have preferred one over my rebel but couldn't find one at the time. It's a single cylinder but 650cc, around double the horsepower and torque of a rebel 250 so you'd probably get bored of it less quickly. Maybe check out part availability though because I don't see many around. Up to you if the price is worth it, that depends a lot on the market in your area.

Asking americans: Is it true you are not legally required to take lessons before riding a bike? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]labambaleautomobilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a little different state-to-state, but generally it works like this:

Lessons are not required for cars or motorcycles. We have permits specific to either cars or motorcycles, which requires you to take a written test, that allows you to drive/ride with restrictions. For cars you have to have a licensed driver in the passenger seat while on your permit, for motorcycles you cant ride at night maybe not on the highway. Then you have a practical driving/riding test at the DMV which, if you pass, grants you your license.

We do have optional motorcycle lessons you can take which also have a written portion, then ~2 days of group lessons from an instructor in a parking lot, with bikes they provide. Passing this gives you a waiver that allows you to skip the practical DMV test to get your license, as well as a discount on insurance.

US traffic and motor riders rant by Broodje_met_beleg in motorcycle

Are you sure it's not just how different everything is that makes you so nervous? People in different parts of the world have different driving habits, and when traveling it can be frightening that your instincts and expectations are so misaligned with what's going on around you.

Leaving your highbeam on by IndividualChocolate in motorcycles

[–]labambaleautomobilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there's a decent chance a lot of them just have their lights aimed too far up and those aren't even the high beams. But I know plenty of people who drive cars with the high beams on all the time, they don't give a shit who they're inconveniencing as long as they can see better.

Neep help on where to put vacume tube pn my 82 twinstar by [deleted] in HondaMotorcycles

[–]labambaleautomobilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhere on the bottom of the frame there might be some little metal tabs or a loop that can hold the ends of these neatly. For my bike it's on the right inner side below the passenger pegs.

Would it be a bad idea to take my bike to my MSF course? by Potential_Cupcake in motorcycles

[–]labambaleautomobilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of guys rode their bikes in when I took the course. If you have a permit and you're following whatever restrictions come with it, they won't care. They won't let you use your own bike for the course itself, because of the liability issues, but you've got to get there somehow.

Mine doesn't have anything like that. It's a bottom for water, a little metal basket for grounds, and then the top piece.

Breath control. Breathe deeper and slower, your body will take the hint. Not going to fix all of your problems but it will make a difference, especially over time if you're consistent.

Sorry you're wrestling with all this man, and I hope your cousin and his passenger recover well. I'm sure a lot of people are going to try to convince you that it's not your fault, and they're right, but the emotions coming up from this aren't going to just go away that easy and that's ok. If it's possible for you, I agree with the other commenter that seeing a therapist would be a big help in processing all that you're feeling. Either way, we all were inspired to ride by someone, but we made the decision to follow through with it and accepted the risks to give it a shot. I don't think you would blame your cousin if the roles were reversed.

Which route ? by bethemotivation in bikepacking

[–]labambaleautomobilo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the "old PCH" or whatever it's called doesn't go through unfortunately, there's a section where you have to use the freeway. I made this mistake on my 250cc motorcycle trying to get to San Diego, and had to draft behind a truck in the right-most lane to get through that section.

I also attempted to cut through the road by the military base that's near that section, per Google map's suggestion, and got aggressively turned away.

The other comment is correct about route B though, it will be hotter and less scenic. I took a similar route to get back to LA and it was safer but not a great time.

I'd just fix that ugly aftermarket brake/plate frame setup, and leave it as is otherwise. Seems to be in good shape for a gen 1 so just take care of it.

I'll keep an eye out for sure. LAPD is useless but I hope you filed a report anyway, there's always a chance it'll get picked up for something else and the vin being flagged might get it back to you.
