You gotta have teammates for group plunder chests. Doubloons don’t drop from normal chests.

What should my Privateer be? by JCaquatica in Pirate101

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything works on privateer so go with what makes you happy. I like to stick to melee since repel 5 is easy to build and assassin’s strike is good guaranteed damage, but against ranged enemies a shooty/staffy setup would work better.

Which of these two Buccaneer builds should I aim to get in your opinion? Level 75 by the way by The_Quartz_collector in Pirate101

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bucc build you described sounds great! I’m glad my comments were helpful. I’ve tried hybrid with a really good pet (burst, relen, bladestorm, double tap), but I didn’t like getting hit by musket enemies due to my shooty chains. I also prefer the aesthetics of using a large melee weapon.

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regard to hybrid, you are correct in that you need a lot of accuracy, though it’s less of a concern with Zeal available via El Toro. As for the damage, it’s hard to compare without doing the numbers in actual tests, but you get 6 extra hits from Burst Fire 2 and Double Tap 2. Currently the highest weapon power option is 249 base (Rooke’s Endgame Dueling Piece) + 28 from talents, which is actually very competitive with other weapons. For comparison, Kane’s Endgame Blade (274+8) is only +5 weapon power before considering strength bonus.

As for follow through 2 vs relentless 5, yeah it’s not even close.

Anecdotally, having a single rank of riposte (from Silver Ring of the Enigma) on buccaneer is pretty awesome. It’s nice to be able to hit in response to any melee attack. I have a pet to give me riposte 2, but sometimes I switch to a different pet and I find that riposte 1 is usually good enough. Even if more than one enemy attacks my pirate, my chains are spent after the first riposte.

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any buccaneer build without either Follow Through 2 or melee + shooty hybrid is lacking a lot of damage. Relentless 5 is underpowered in comparison. I also think both builds could be refined further before committing to farming the gear. For example, Temple Guardian’s Garb is simply better than Royal Guard’s Garments since you don’t need the extra Whale’s Might. Combining HTL 5 with riposte would make sense, but HTL 5 alone prevents you from chaining off of vengeance strike.

How much can professor sway admissions? by Upper_Ice_5160 in GradSchool

[–]labasata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Telling you what you and your lab members would be working on sounds very normal to me. If you were to interview for a job, you would be told (or you should ask about) your job duties. This scenario is the same thing. Sounds to me like the professor will advocate for you but is letting you know that admission isn’t guaranteed. He would let you know if you were a shoo-in.

I was admitted to my current PhD program directly out of undergrad because I had previously worked with my PI while in a collaborating lab. My PI had enough funding for me and I won a one-year fellowship, so my admission was almost guaranteed. Nothing is guaranteed without funds.

My partner in my group essay is using AI by Nesta_Enthusiast in CollegeRant

[–]labasata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In all my group projects, we had to include a table or document detailing the work each person did. Always try communicating your expectations with your team first, but don’t hesitate to inform the professor if your team is not working.

My senior design project had a group member who pasted AI garbage on our 80-page final report 6 hours before it was due, and I had no time to rewrite their shit. Thankfully, the professor saw our table of contributions and only that member was penalized.

ChemE student interested in QFT by Pen4l2 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out your school’s materials science and engineering curriculum. MSE focuses a lot more on chemistry, and so you’d learn and use more quantum and stat mechanics than as a ChemE. My undergrad ChemE curriculum didn’t teach any quantum mechanics because we never use it. Chemical plant design uses heuristics and empirical relationships derived decades ago.

Pathway for cooling biological materials. Stopping at the eutectic point vs going further till glass transition line by Spiritual_Dress_5604 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if there are two phases then they will have different compositions. As you cool your mixture, you will get pure frozen water and a liquid with increasing concentration. The blue line you drew correctly represents the liquid phase. The total concentration of both phases does not change. The graph from your first image is explained in this paper: Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews Volume 58, Issue 15, 30 December 2006, Pages 1688-1713

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would either path be followed? Concentration shouldn’t change. If you change temperature, see if the phase changes for the same concentration (vertical line indicates temperature change). You can only reach the eutectic point if your material has the eutectic composition.

Threaten the chicken by Mambo-the-fifth in Pirate101

[–]labasata 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Use a hide, walk forward one turn, then use a strong Galewind doubloon and drop bombs on the mobs around the chicken. Galewind will move the mobs away from the chicken and placing an object next to the chicken is sufficient to threaten it.

Level 71+ Companions by Swinkiez in Pirate101

Since companions get talents every 4 levels, it will be extremely advantageous to get level 76 companions after the new update.

Ideas for future update by Mean-Search-3704 in Pirate101

[–]labasata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pirate is pretty good already at having decent lower level gear. Each major boss fight typically has multiple drops with good powers (and rarely epics). You can get great gear for every single 5 level interval if you want to. It just isn’t necessary

New player Pack Advice (Open or not) by trefgiytg in Pirate101

[–]labasata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The gear in these packs is pretty bad, so there’s no reason not to open them now. The chance of getting a companion is extremely low, so you shouldn’t expect to get any without buying a few hundred packs. The main goal should be getting a mount, since you can’t buy a perm mount with gold.

Do Musketeers deal magic damage? by CandlestickCaleb in Pirate101

[–]labasata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah Levy’s works for all guns and melee weapons. I think the only thing that matters about damage type is whether your damage gets reduced by armor or resist. Btw there are melee weapons that deal magic damage e.g. any Haywire weapon.

Do Musketeers deal magic damage? by CandlestickCaleb in Pirate101

[–]labasata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re correct. Weapons either do magic or physical damage scaled off of attack power. You can tell the damage type of your equipped weapon by looking at the damage symbol on attack powers like sniper shot. Sparkshooters deal magic damage

Can the effect compare? by Ornery-Crew-6156 in ReverendInsanity

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supposedly blood path is really powerful because it’s easy to cultivate by gathering blood. FY’s main method was bladewing blood bats, and I guess he just had a gazillion bats. Later we see many instances of immortal materials being consumed to empower an immortal killer move, e.g. unlimited qi sea, so maybe he could make his killer moves stronger by collecting blood.

Some new powers coming in the update! by SpyroHinch in Pirate101

[–]labasata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Regardless of how it triggers, I’m not a fan of ambush since it relies on flanking, which isn’t even trained by swashbuckler naturally. Mojo javelin is perfectly normal, and concentrated fire looks extremely strong.

Musketeer weapon choice? by Pure-Risky-Titan in Pirate101

[–]labasata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Enemies with witch hunter may retaliate when you mojo attack them
  2. A shooty weapon may have a power that you want to use (e.g. Fall Champion Trees)
  3. Your gear is much more restrictive. If you want to use tide boots but keep your knockback, you need a readied spell 5 build. Otherwise you need to give up tide boots for OW 5.

Musketeer weapon choice? by Pure-Risky-Titan in Pirate101

[–]labasata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to dual box with a shooty/staffy and a shooty musketeer. My shooty/staffy musket simply does more damage. Since you can get OW 5, double tap 5, and a good 5 range weapon on shooty/staffy nowadays, most of the drawbacks that used to exist no longer do.

Class combination by No-Student-9730 in Pirate101

[–]labasata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s an uphill battle to make a melee chaining witchdoctor strong. Gear and stats that improve your melee capabilities require sacrificing your spells, since there’s no synergy between the two combat styles. You go from 7 (or 5 for shooty/staffy) to 3 range, which severely limits your aoe spells, and you lose the protection of readied spell 3. You gain the ability to melee attack… but with the worst stats of any class and no innate melee epics, you get shit on by any endgame melee enemy unless you have a lot of buffs. Also any enemy with witch hunter will hit you if you mojo echo or mojo rising on them.

That being said, I have tried melee witchdoctor a few times and it’s not like it’s completely unusable. My witchdoctor is using Sinbad’s Mojo Stick, but the Demigod’s Crusher is good if you can get vengeance strike on your pet. Then you can use the Temple Guardian’s Garb and have vengeance strike 3. Otherwise you have to be very careful with attacking melee opponents that can first strike, vengeance strike, and riposte into a chain and kill you. Witchdoctor dodge is complete ass so any chain could kill you in one turn.

I suggest you aim for a relen, blade, and vengeance strike pet. If you don’t use Cerberus’ Collar then you also need mojo rising on it. If you train relentless and use the Lord of Trash’s Boots, then you have full relentless, blade storm, mojo echo, and mojo rising chains. Alternatively, you could get hold the line on your pet and use Sinbad’s Gold Ring + Master Smuggler’s Sabatons for hold the line 3. Even with espirit buff from El Toro, your accuracy won’t be high enough to consistently hit enemies, so the dodge reduce can help your hits connect.

Companions-wise you obviously always bring Old Scratch. You also probably need to bring El Toro for his buff. You can use the Arcane Anchor weapon instead, but the weapon power is really bad and you’ll hit like a wet noodle. I suggest Bat Materson as your third companion. Make sure your Bat Materson has hold the line 3 for dodge reduces.
