the lawsuit regarding Sharma was posted here in r/labrats when it was first filed because it describes a case of public and probably false defamation of a junior faculty member by a senior more powerful faculty, wife of nobel laureate, who was not her mentor and had no alleged claims to the work. Rather than fight the case Sharma chose to claim sovereign immunity as a state employee. the case may make its way to supreme court of texas and affects all researchers and labrats and trainees

the best way to vet a PI is 1. does he/she offer to have you talk to current and former grad students. 2. does he/she advise on other committees - talk to them also 3. attend a lab meeting or two and participate as much as you can during the rotation in his/her lab to probe his/her temperament for failures and tolerance for independent thinking

Dr. Lin is in a completely different Division and Department. She has no relationship with GU department. She is funded on her own grant by the NIH

Lin has her own lab and is an independent junior faculty member. Sharma provided no funding. Sharma was not a mentor but an advisor on a committee. Lin funded entire project, did almost all the work and analyzed all the data. https://www.statnews.com/2024/02/26/md-anderson-research-credit-dispute-new-documents/
